Why is Syracuse football opening 2019 season at Liberty?

So...Liberty is paying SU for Saturday's game?
I know the 'financial terms' haven't been disclosed but the emerging program with a ton of money and the desire to be a bigger program should shelling out the cash for this game, right?

Everybody pays for non-conference road games. Syracuse and UCONN paid each other $350,000 for their 2016-2018 home and home.

I'm more annoyed that we don't play Miami again until 2024...kind of crazy you don't play a team in your own conference for that long of a time

This could be its own thread - but is there any chance of moving to rotation of teams - the idea that the B1G shot down? I thought a number of months ago I thought maybe the opposition landscape had changed.

Probably should be a separate thread...but I've come around to not wanting the rotating teams. I kind of like that we've been playing 7/8 of the same team every year. I know VT (especially) and Miami (somewhat) were rivals in the BE days; but I feel like every team in the Atlantic, and Pitt, is starting to feel like a rival. You really only develop rivalries when you play the same teams every year. Rotating would take away from that.

So Liberty pays this year?
Syracuse pays next year and the following year for both home games?

Seems likely. Liberty paid Old Dominion $1.2 million to be their home opener in 2018. Seems as though Syracuse wouldn't pay NEARLY that much for the return trips.
