Why is the defense so bad?

I have to ask...were Greg Robinsons D's ever this bad? Seriously.

His defenses were 57th, 107th, 112th and 103th from 2005-2008. We were 104th going into today and will almost certainly drop further after having given up 600 yards.

Thanks Eric. Crazy bad numbers for a lot of the GR and DB years.

Here's how I remember it - statistically probably not as bad, but just about everybody looked limited.

The difference now is, I think we do have real talent. Occasionally one of them does something incredible.

Robinson had small and slow guys in a lot of cases but it seems like Dino has bigger faster guys but wow...this is so tough to watch and the tackling (lack of) reminds me of the GRob years.

Our stud line can not cover up our other deficiencies especially at linebacker, our tackling is high school level and we are undersized

We don't have a stud line. We have two very good DE's and average DT's. That's not a stud line.

Defense is horrific. They ran outside zone for fun. Any mis direction throws us off. Its like a high school team. We didnt get off blocks and we tackled horribly. Its starts with the D line first. They got reached all day. its hard for the LB's to flow over the top. We lose force leverage and we make 180 pound RB's look like Bo Jackson. They just bounce off us. I don't see a lot of guys playing with a purpose. Not playing with cruel intentions. Defensive staff needs to go. Didn't see enough adjustments. Keep Monroe, he can coach different positions for Dino.

True freshman linebacker did not have a good game today. Did not record a stat and was out there for much of the game. May I ask where Tyrell Richards was today? Did not see him on the field today after playing well against Duke. In my very humble opinion, Dino Babers needs to go outside and find a defensive coordinator who can make it work with what he has here.

We dropped from 104th to 111th after yesterday's loss.

UConn has given up 31 more yards than we have this year (against comparable schedules, our SOS is 67 and theirs is 72), so I guess we have that going for us.

Now that you say that, where was he? Was he injured? He is one of the best defensive players IMO. I am confused as to why he has not been utilized as such.

Also, did Abdul Adams play? There was a point of the game I did not watch.

I would say this year’s is worse, mostly because it has to be the most disappointing unit failure since the 1989 offensive line.

Related, the worst defensive outings (no order) that come to mind...

Georgia Tech (Shaffer...2014?)
Maryland (2019)
Penn State (weekend of Express opening)
Purdue/Georgia Tech bookend blowouts (2004)
Boston College (2019)

Note: I dismiss games like 59-0 to Miami (unreal team), Louisville (Lamar Jackson) and Michael Vick 62-0, because of transcendent talent.

You left out the FSU "Hangman game", where their players were so disinterested in the blowout, they played hangman on the sidelines, rather than watch the game.
That may have been the same game where the FSU receiver bounced off about 47 tackles on the way to a long TD, that could be set to a soundtrack of Yakety Sax.

Add giving up 70+ points to Pitt...imagine if the O didn't score in that game what the score could have been?

Another question...would Stanard take a demotion back to the DL under a new DC?
