For making KD captain of the Olympic team? Melo is the obvious leader of this team. Leads the huddles etc. Clearly the guy everyone looks up to on this team. His 4th olympics, most ever. Yet the "can do no wrong" Cosch K makes a guy captain whose leadership qualities are often in question? For a guy who seems to take pride in this stuff, he dropped the ball here. Not sure why this hasn't been discussed...

I don't know. I think K took quite a bit of heat for his apparent behavior after we beat them at Cameron this past season. And wasn't there another incident later in the season? I can't recall what it was at the moment.

Boeheim no doubt gets to weigh in, right? That is if it is the coaches who pick. Isn't captain picked by the players in a lot of cases?

Wonder if players like Durant need to be wooed, challenged to totally focus and buy in? I imagine he is challenging him to be a leader and take ownership and responsibility for the team's performance. I do wonder how Melo feels or if Melo's mature enough to sacrifice knowing they need a focused, engaged Durant to win.

why isnt coach k taking heat for something no one cares about? I can't imagine why.

I'd probably make Melo the captain, for what it's worth, but my god, who could care about this?
God forbid someone has something to say other than lame jokes on the AW3 page

Maybe he recommended KD?
I am pretty sure he did. When was the last time Boeheim ever looked out for or said anything positive about his players or former players. Yet every time I watch a game involving a Syracuse player the announcers always make some negative remarks about something Boeheim told them.

In the NCAA tournament a player for Oregon dared to shoot the ball when there was a second left on the shot clock and about 10 seconds on the game clock.

In K's mind, with 10 seconds to go, they were well up and should have just turned over the ball. He then chastised the player on the court and said then was passive aggressive post game.

What a dick. That being said, I don't really see an issue in this "Captain" case... he has been a dick for 20 years.

Only 20??

Hate to sound petty but if Melo were a Dukie he would be Captain. This is disrespecting his seniority.

Hell, if Melo was a candidate for president he would get more votes that the current pair that are being offered up! Melo showed his leadership when he acted as the spokesman for the group of players which came out against violence between police and blacks.

Melo would likely get more votes for president than the 2 candidates being offered up by the major parties. Melo demonstrated his leadership when he acted as spokesman for NBA players against violence recently.

I have to say I didn't even realize they named captains. Who was the captain in 2012? (I'm guessing Lebron, Kobe didn't play, right?) But this is such a non story

I think kobe was on the team but could be wrong. I guess i couldve googled it which would have taken less time then my terrible post.
