Why NC STATE will win
- Jacoby Brissett. Coach Shafer compared him to Ben Rothlisberger, (who threw for 525 yards and 4TDs against Shafer’s defense when he was at Northern Illinois). He’s 6-4 231, about the same as Terrell Hunt. But this guy can pass the ball. He’s 151/247 (.611) for 1,796 yards, (11.9 per completion and 7.3 per attempt) with 16 TD passes. Compare that to SU’s 150/264 (56.8) 1,582yards (10.5/6.0) for 4TDs and 9 interceptions. AJ Long is 50/86 (58.1) 420yards (8.4/4.9) 2TDs and 4 int.
- Supposedly we will win this game because of our running attack. But the Wolfpack is running for more yards per game than we are (181-178). Their top three runners are averaging 5.7, 5.9 and 6.0 yards per game.
- We’ve got seven starters definitely out for this game and another “doubtful” and two more “questionable”. Even if those guys play, they will be hobbled at best. That includes three offensive linemen: Ivan Foy, Nick Robinson and Rob Trudo. Both “H” backs, Brisly Estime and Ashton Broyld are on that list. We are also missing three guys, one at each level of defense: tackle Wayne Williams, linebacker Luke Arciniega and back Wayne Morgan. That’s just too much for a mediocre, thin team to overcome.
- We’ve beaten Villanova, Central Michigan and Wake Forest. That is who we are. We may not be playing Top 25 teams the rest of the way but each opponent will be better than anyone we’ve yet played.
