Why no McLeod at all?

Any value McLeod adds on defense is negated by him being a total sinkhole on offense. He has no range or post game so he just clogs up the paint and makes it easier for defenses to contain any penetration we might get.

The bigger question is why Red didn't bring in another 6'10"+ guy. Anything's possible but I think counting on Petar or Jyare or Donnie to hold down the 5 against ACC opponents when Lampkin sits is asking for trouble.

Watch this highlights reel of McLeod at Florida State. The first 45 seconds shows you all about his offensive upside.

He did a lot of things at Florida State that he just isn't being allowed to do here. Last year, it was ball dominant guards that didn't look to pass, so far this year it's coaching decisions.

I don't think the problem lies with McLeod, I think it's a coaching issue.

Lampkin is not going to sit for extended amounts of time unless he is hurt. He just averaged 28 mins a game last season on a quality tourney team in a tough conference. We can't be thinking he is going to sit a lot based on one game that he played with a back brace.

I wouldn't expect him to play more than 30 MPG. My point is that for those other 10 minutes our opponents are going to hunt the paint like nobody's business. At least if they're smart.

This is something they should be working on. If our 7-footer can’t guard the opponent’s 6’8” center on the perimeter, make that shrimp defend McLeod in the post. We have a table-setting PG and the rest of the guys pass pretty well. McLeod should have a handful of oop attempts, and see which is more efficient—their ‘center’ from 3 or our CENTER at the rim. If we don’t have a player who can take advantage of that physical mismatch, either we shouldn’t have that player or we shouldn’t have the staff that signed/trains him.

That was a too harsh, black and white take, but it’s the kind of thing a Shaq or Barkley would say, right? What’s the point of having a 7’4” center? Not a frosh—a guy who came from another ACC program, and started for us last year. If he can’t beat up on a small Le Moyne team, when would he be effective? The guy put up numbers against Jesse, and that was two years ago.
I could push McLeod out of the paint.

I think the video shows his best plays for an entire season. He drunk at FSU, he stunk last year and unless something magical happened I assume he still stinks.

True. He hasn’t shown much offensively, and so far he’s not defending aggressively. But he’s coming off injury, and even when healthy, isn’t cut out to chase a 6’8 forward all over the court in m2m. Within 10-12 feet of the rim in a zone, however, he has the potential to block shots, alter shots and rebound better than anyone else on the roster. I think in that role (once healthy) he could build confidence, use his size to defend more aggressively and maybe get a couple putbacks and a lob. That’s all we need from him.
