If we are the better team, we’re going to have to go out there and prove it. - Notre Dame’s two worst performances have been at home, their two best, (a competitive game vs. Ohio State and a 45-32 defeat of UNC for their only loss) have been on the road. - We keep pining for throws to the tight end, (Gadsden is really a fourth wide-out), We’ll Notre Dame has the best tight end in the country in Michael Meyers…er Mayer. 6-4 265 with 44 catches for 526 yards and 6TDs. Gadsden has 37/593/5, so Mayer is Gadsden +50 more pounds to tackle. Mayer: “I don’t think anybody in the country can cover me one on one.” He will be a force in this game. - The failure to get the ball to Sean Tucker, (and in a space where he can do something with it), “has been addressed”, according to Dino Babers. Notre Dame has addressed it, too. Sean is averaging 5.4 yards per carry, (thank you, Wagner). Notre Dame has the estimable Audric Estime, (5.5), Logan Diggs (4.6), and Chris Tyree (4.3). Tyree had a 96 yard kickoff return against Wisconsin last year. Of course we have LaQuint Allen, (8.6) but take away that 90 yarder where he got caught, (by Wagner) and it’s 3.2. - I took a dive into the stats to see how we compared to big, bad Notre Dame. Sending the house at the ND QB may not work in this game. - They are a little better on 3rd and 4th down on defense. - They return punts better and defend kick-off returns better. They also put the ball in the end zone more often and have had fewer punts returned. - We are the most penalized team in the country. ND has less than half as many. - Their strength of schedule is a little better. - Going into the season, we hoped to go 6-6 and get to a minor bowl. That would be progress.
