- We are Syracuse. They are only Wake Forest. We have beaten them four times in a row, the last three under Scott Shafer by a combined score of 73-24. Dino Babers isn’t going to lose to a team his predecessor never lost to. He also isn’t going to lose to his predecessor at Bowling Green.

- That’ storm may not be the factor we expected it to be and, as Coach Babers pointed out, the second half may be a different story than the first half. Not all games played in bad field conditions are low-scoring. The guy with the ball the advantage in that they know where they are going. The defenders have to wait and see where he’s going and then react and try to cut and run with him. Look at that second Pinstripe Bowl win for an example.

- If we get out in front of Wake Forest 17-0 or 14-0 on a windy, rainy day, Wake, a team that just runs the ball and throws short, may not be able to challenge that lead. The hare could beat the tortoise in this one.

- And Wake isn’t going to score on the first play or 3-4 times in the first five minutes. They also aren’t going to burn us deep. We are getting better against the run and the short pass and we’ve been good on third down all year, (48-26 according to my “winning plays” formula). We aren’t going to let them take over the game and plod their way to victory.

- Babers has acknowledged that Fredericks could give him an advantage with his extra weight and strength so we may see more of him in this game. He’s already changed his mind on Brisley returning punts and will have him out there “until he gets tired, graduates or jumps to the pros.” He might make the same decision about Fredericks.

- This offense hasn't really exploded yet. Tick...tick...tick

- They aren’t a whiz on special teams, either. Their punter is hurt and their place kicker is having to do the punting. Mike Weaver is 7 for 8 on field goals but he missed a short one and last year he missed 7 of 18. Having to take on the punting duties won’t help him. They are averaging 15 yards a kickoff return, (we are averaging 20) and have a total of 5 yards in punt returns. We have the Salt Badger and he will roar!

- They have played Tulane, Duke, Delaware, Indiana and NC State, (who gained 527 yards on them – 323 through the air- and won easily after taking a 17-0 first quarter lead). We’ve played Louisville, South Florida and Notre Dame and beaten anybody who wasn’t on that level.

Also, Sunday night football last week between the Chiefs and Steelers was pouring rain. Didn't affect Pittsburgh much...
