- When you have Kyle McCord passing to our group of receivers, you always have a chance.

- Our defense, despite the two blown coverages in the second quarter, dominated Holy Cross. Yes, it was Holy Cross but maybe it’s developing into a strong unit as the season progresses.

- UNLV is a rising program but they aren’t a power conference program. The likelihood is that we have better talent and more depth at most positions.

- They are hoping for 30,000 fans in a 65,000 seat stadium. That might not be a lively environment, which could help a visiting team.

- When I expressed my concern over this game on Coach Brown’s show, he said that if I could sit next to him in a film session he could “show me a lot of things” about UNLV. Maybe he’s spotted some weaknesses that don’t come out in the stats.

- I also recall some games in our past when teams felt they had us in the crosshairs and it didn’t work out. Going way back, Wisconsin, after having gone winless in 1967 and 1968, opened the 1969 season giving national powers Oklahoma and UCLA a couple of stiff battles and they expected to show everybody they were really back by crushing SU in Camp Randall stadium and doing that silly dance they do. The New York Times: Tuesday October 7, 1969
“Syracuse riddled Wisconsin's porous defense almost at will and handed the Badgers their 18th consecutive loss, 43-7, today…THE Syracuse-Wisconsin football game ended in a brawl between the teams Saturday only because Ben Schwartzwalder, the Syracuse coach, was asked by a Wisconsin groundskeeper to run for the final conversion instead of kicking a sixth extra point.” It was before nets.

- I remember when we’d won our first four games in 1987, we went out to play Missouri. Missouri players were saying that they were glad we were undefeated because when they beat us, it would make them look all the better. Pretty cocky, considering that we’d beaten them 41-9 in the Dome the year before. The Morning Orange: Twenty-five years ago today, Missouri fell to the 1987 Syracuse football team
“The Orangemen, with the No. 1-ranked rushing defense in the nation, held the Tigers (who'd entered the game with the fifth-rated rushing offense) to less than half their 330.2-yard average as Ted Gregory registered 11 tackles.” We won 24-13 and went on to an 11-0 season. Maybe this could be that type of game for us.

3-1 and 8 + to go!

LET’S GO ORANGE!

Stats that favor Syracuse:

It’s interesting that we average 475 yards total offense per game compared to their 430 yet we average 34 points per game and they average 45. Our passing attack, if fully functional can keep us in any game. UNLV may have a weakness in their pass defense (226 yards per game).
