Why this offense will never work

Instead of basing the time sitting out on number of plays run, it should be for a set amount of time. I'd guess about 5 minutes (actual time, not game clock time) would be a fair minimum to conduct a "proper" medical evaluation. I'd also consider adding additional time out depending on how long it takes to get the injured player off the field, since the amount of time they are laying there should be indicative of the severity of the injury.

they should have to stay out of the game during the remainder of the current drive.

Yes! I had this exact thought during the game. Now that's a real disincentive. At the very least the offending team would have to think long term strategy about who/when to flop.

Doesn't hurt the non-fakers. If it's a major injury, you're not coming back in anyway. Moderate injury, you still need medical attention. If it really is a cramp bc it's so hot in the dome or bc Syracuse plays so fast, then maybe you are not in game shape and should just sit out the drive and hydrate. Anything less and you should be able to get yourself off the field. (I know it's not this black and white but humor me)

Which brings me to the second part of the new rule. Take care of this on the sideline! Anytime a player goes down, immediately bring the stretcher and get the guy off the field. Why have 27 guys hovering around? You have the manpower. Maybe even use an ambulance. Whatever gets the game back on as quickly as possible. (Like the kids who mop up the basketball court. They're pretty quick)
Hell, add some circus music.

I bet you crowds would stop booing players and start cheering for the the trainers.

From my view (via the miracle called television) I thought a lot of their injuries were due to something that’s been lacking from a lot of recent SU - Pitt games. We were just as big if not bigger, and much more physical.

Felt good watching that.

too parts to this.. one I dont think any of those were fake injuries.. no reason to fake one every 3-4 plays. Two I think many of them in the old days would have gotten off the field, but there is no reason to they way the game is played today.. I do think they need to re-think the rule of what happens when you get injured as far as how long you need to stay out
why only on defense? again i sit right behind the the opposition bench. players never got stretched out or rode the bike after .i agree with upper deck there needs to be a rule modification re returning to the game.

Totally agree. Would really like to see the AD call a press conference to announce that we are self-imposing a ban on the forward pass.

It usually hard to tell if a guy is hurt or not. For the sake of player safety, they shouldn't be allowed back into the game for the rest of the drive. Also why in football do they tend to injuries on the field? If it isn't a major injury, cart the guy off. It saves so much time.

One of the Pitt injuries the DL hurt his arm. They took forever tending to him. He could have easily walked off the field right away saving a commercial break. They keep talking about making games shorter but the biggest issue is commercials and injuries.

What would even be better is not breaking huddle with 12 players on the field or false starts! Sometimes we go too fast for ourselves, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, just frustrating and cant happen against Clemson and the likes. When the day comes those small mistakes stop, then everybody should be afraid.

The other issue is , the referre stands over the ball ...forever! Allows the defense to sub in. Why?

If we sub in players the Defense is allowed to as well. I've only seen it once this year where the ref stood over the ball where he should not have.

My buddy and I talked about this . We watched which players went down and when they returned to the field. Amazingly, it was only a couple of plays! Go figure!

A few times the guy who was "shaken up" only took 1 play off before coming right back in

It would help, problem is people with legit injuries will try to hide them perhaps
This is football not soccer. If you are legit injured you are likely already fighting through the injury until you no longer can anyway. Making them sit out a drive would help them as well.

The only time I think that is legit is if someone has the wind knocked out of them. Really any other injury, even cramps, normally requires more timr than that to recover.

all the fake injuries slowing us down. Happens every game. We get into a rythem on offense and then... boom...,a defensive player goes down ., Wth?

NEVER work?

The fake injuries are a sign of how well the O is working and how much pressure the pace/system puts on the D. The offense is already "working." The next step is to turn the productivity into points consistently. That has little to do with the injury time outs.

exactly my thoughts

I have a suggestion for a rule change.

Any time a player goes down, requires medical assistance and leaves the field, he may not return to the field during the current drive. Stay out for a drive, not a play or two.

I'd raise the stakes from the initial penalty you suggest. Second injury, player off for drive, 5-yard penalty, automatic first down. Third injury, 10-yard penalty, automatic first down, team plays down one man on next play.

Then players hide injuries and it creates a huge mess. I'm 100% fine with making a "hurt" player site for a serious, BUT once you start handing out penalties it gets dodgy for sure. Does it suck when players do this fake BS stuff sure it does. Still have to remember the players long term heath still needs to be a bigger concern.

It's a strong reaction to be sure. But coaches are making a mockery of the current rules. Injuries -- real or faked -- are being greeted by boos from the stands. Damage is being done to the game right now. A strong message needs to be sent that this must stop.

I didn't see any Pitt players faking injuries yesterday. I saw a lot of cramping up. To me that means the Pitt players weren't getting the usual break between plays that they're used to. I agree with others that it's a sign the offense is working. I can only wish our offense runs so well this Friday nite that Clemson feels a need to fake injuries. If that happens I'll know we're making real progress on offense.

If you have a legit injury, you're likely going to be out for more than just a drive.

Not necessarily true. And because of that, this will never become a rule change

And on the way off the field, I kid you not, that player "low fived" with a player coming onto the field with the arm/hand the medical team was examining during the injury timeout. You can't coach that...

The other issue is , the referre stands over the ball ...forever! Allows the defense to sub in. Why?
If the offense substitutes a player, the defense has the right to substitute and the center judge or the umpire stands over the ball to allow for it. If the offense does not substitute, the defense can still send in a substitute but runs the risk of having too many players on the field if the offense quick-snaps the ball.

Then I realized that it was probably close to 100 degrees in the dome (according to the announcers)[/QUOTE

I sit as high up in the Dome as you can get (the hottest area of the Dome) and it wasn’t near 100 degrees.

Narduzzi thinks tempo is a BS way to play offense. He and SS both think fake injuries are a way to make it more “even” as demonstrated in games with them.
To be fair (not citing you specifically because I honestly don't recall), a good portion, perhaps even the majority of this board shared this sentiment prior to Dino's arrival.

I recall multiple threads on why tempo was ruining the game & should be outlawed.
