- Because they are better than we are. They played in a better conference. They lost two games by one point. They had two bad games in midseason but were a really a very impressive otherwise.
- Yeah we upset them last season, (and the season before that) but they remember that and how it was accomplished and are a much better team. They’ve had a month to prepare for this and aren’t looking past us. They won’t let that happen again.
- We are very proud of our offense, (after years of frustration). They are better across the board: 41.6ppg, (7th in the country), 518.5 total yards, (8th), 177.6 rushing (46th), 340.9 passing (6th) vs. 29.3 (60th), 473.4 (21st), 171.8 (53rd) and 301.6 (21st).
- The key is the scoring. They get the sort of scoring you’d expect from those other offensive numbers. We don’t. remember those four turnover, 10 penalty games? That better not happen here.
- Geno Smith vs. Ryan Nassib: 350/490 for 4004 yards 40TDs 6 interceptions vs. 283/448 for 3619 yards, 24TDs and 9int. That’s not even and this game will be played out doors in bad weather, not in the Carrier Dome. Smith will be more used to it than Nassib.
- We like Lemon and Sales. But how about these numbers? Tavon Austin caught 110 passes for 1259 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also ran the ball 61 times for 598 yards, (9.8 a crack!) and three more scores. Steadman Bailey never ran the ball but he caught 106 passes for 1501 yards and just 23 TDs. Lemon and Sales have 15 touchdown passes between them, (Lemon also ran for one). Again, no real comparison.
- Who have we beaten? Louisville wound up 10-2 but Pitt was 6-6, Connecticut 5-7, South Florida 3-9, Missouri (the one we got all excited about) 5-7 and Temple 4-7. And, of course, Stony brook was an FCS team.
- We are going to miss Marquis Spruill, even if it’s for only part of the game. And Adonis Ameen-Moore was becoming an important part of our running game.
- After a horrendous start, we almost broke even on takeways, 19-20, -1. But the Mountaineers are still much better at it, 18-12= +6.
