Wildhack retires today

So interesting timing. It either had to happen now or he would need to be around at least a few years to make any prospective hoop coaches comfortable with the leadership structure.
So when does Syracuse officially name the Chancellor? I have seen in this thread that maybe having the Chancellor in place is not a predecessor activity and that unofficially the Chancellor replacing Kent is known. So timing is everything and Syracuse is about 4 weeks from end of hoop season and having to go through a process to hire but also establish levels of comfort with the coaches we want.
Any board insiders able to share how the mechanics of how some things could work process wise?
I would think officially naming Kent's replacement would be helpful and allow that person to get the ball rolling and "onboarded". So some directional decisions can be made? I would think if we are trying to replace Red with the best candidate for Syracuse, having the established leadership in place is kind of important.

Wildhack is lameduck of his own choosing, if he was being forced out that's a different convo. I can assure you he will be hiring the new mens bball coach. The new AD whoever it is may get a say especially if SU goes to a full national search which I expect but again keep in mind both maybe national searches and you need a bball coach sooner rather then later.
I agree, we 100% need a coach sooner which is why i dont think him waiting until july makes sense. If he's leaving and the next high-profile hiring decision is going to be the BBall HC then he should leave on March 1st and advise through July to ensure we don't get a contentious situation between new coach and new AD.

Will Wade was hired March 22nd. Anything later than that and you’re putting the new guy behind on roster construction.

I could see around that time, but it might take until the following week as I believe SU is casting a wide net

The next AD, whomever that shall be, will inherit a department that’s on much, much, much firmer footing than what John walked into 10 years ago.

Not every coaching hire works out. College athletics is rife with scandal and drama. Even the best ADs have to appease boosters, boards, influential alumni, and internal politics.

John did right by his beloved Alma Mater.
