for the most part we had Davis man up and had the corner/Safety play off the screen all night. this works fine if the screen isnt called as Davis can be physical on the WR and the DB has time to adjust. ND simply threw it over and over, we never got a single hold called all night and if was simple 5-10 yd gains down the field.
The bigger issue was that when we defended it with 2 players and a safety we could no longer blitz as well and we struggled with the running game against a physical oline.
I wonder if we play this different had morgan not been out.
If you are not going to defend the play with 3 guys then you need to attack the stack differently. You need to double the WR and hand off the WR so the Db can attack the player behind the stack. Otherwise if we are going to need the LB to leverage the play better attack the stack and hand of the WR to the DB. We seemed content to have Davis control the WR and hope help came in time.. Im sure they didnt expect that play to be run 20 times but they really need to have a better plan for dealing with it going forward.
