I just don't understand what we are trying to do.

SC seemed to be right in the shorts of our guards when they popped out to the wings. Couldn't figure out if they were just really fast, or knew our offense that well. Then I see that our bigs aren't actually even trying to pick those guys. Isn't that the whole crux of our offense?

We need an offense that works with the players we have. I didn't see anything resembling that today.

I'd love to hear Coach Orange explain if he saw something that i was missing.

We've really never run much of an offense, and a guy like Martin capitalized on that today.

With the right coaching and the right players, it's also pretty easy to dissect our zone.

Does anyone else fel like hitting the bottle after this game, even if they don't drink? Im such a mess my stomach is literally making all sorts of foul noises, worse than the title of that oof thread. Im worried what might happen in 20 minutes...these noises are nonstop. Then again it could be partly because I ate meat I bought from the bargain bin :(

I think it's normal enough that a team that lost its two primary ball handlers from the last two seasons, and is now dominated by several players in their first year of wearing Orange, looked lost in the face of a tough D.

And the bad news is, old bud, after having just looked at their schedule, after beating both Michigan and Syracuse by 15 apiece, they get the Catamounts next.

there's a big difference in the basketball IQ of 5th yr grads and frosh . darby o'gillon and A-trey shouldn't need any seasoning.

Good post. And now JB, like the HOFer has done for 40 years, will start to tweak the O and the rotations. We have to be able to score in the post against teams that can limit our perimeter game. We are going to play several teams that can play tough, in your face, team defense like S. Car.

Well eating an Orange for lunch isnt hard, but a Catamount might not be worse than a Wolverine?

A whole bunch of teams over the last 41 years must not have had the right coaching and the right players.

You're right. But Martin had the right players and the right approach to win today.

Our offensive game plan has stunk for years. When you don't have guards that can break down a D and score off the dribble, your O will struggle against good D. The lack of movement and ball reversal is flat out pathetic.

Enough about the offense. At some point you need your guards to make plays. South Carolina overplayed everything. There was opportunity for Frank, Gillon and Battle to take advantage. In most case a they did not. I thought Frank looked the best, but he's a horrible Free Throw shooter. Disappointed that Battle hasn't shown us much besides three point shooting. If there was ever a game he could have shown us his strengths, today was it.

To answer the title of this thread, I found this game in general to be "an offense"!!!

Ironically the same coach got blown out by the same zone about 5 years ago in the NCAA tourney.

SC was getting under the chin of our guards, and getting infront of all our screens for our wings. We didn't attempt a backdoor once. They were extra aggressive and didn't let our shooters catch it in a spot where they could shoot. Instead they dared us to go backdoor and make that pass or dared our shooters to catch it in a tough spot and make a play off the bounce.

I found the movement of the guys off the ball worse than our pg's. The pg's had no one to throw the ball to.

White needs to do a much better job at curling off all those down screens.

True enough, but they are learning to play a whole new way with a whole new team. And Gillon has seen very little in the way SC moved as fast and aggressively on defense.

Ouch. That's going to be a tough run for the local squad.

The really frustrating thing was they either weren't using the screens or there really wasn't a screen there. I saw multiple times where the bigs were just kind of there, but not in any position to actually set a screen. Pretty easy to stay with a guy as a defender when you aren't running into a 6'9" guy.

This is where Battle comes in. To me, he is the ex factor as to whether this team pulls it together and has a chance to be elite (crazy talk?). I know he hasn't shown much, but he has played so sparringly, I am not sure he is getting into any type of rythem, especially just being 5 games in in his college career. We need someone we can just give the ball to when the offense seems stagnant and see if he can create his own shot and break down the D. Clearly White is not that type of 'guard', he is a 3. Gillon has that mentality, but this game showed me he is too small to do that consistently at this level. Howard was trying to be that player in the second half, but it really isn't his game. We need Battle.
