William Kyle Appreciation Thread

William Kyle is a freak athlete. So refreshing to see great defense and athleticism at the center position again. Souare is a good defender as well. He spells Kyle well when he's in there.
Hopefully some of his toughness will rub off on Donnie. If Donnie plays more physically the sky is the limit, and this could be a team no one wants to play in March and April.

It already is a bit. This team is very encouraging for SU basketball fans who've been down hearted for quite awhile. Lets hope we can keep this train rolling so that we are playing in March and April.

How can anyone not like this kid? He just gets it. He’s got a shot in the NBA because he’s a big who can play defense and not have plays run for him. That’s a luxury.
Oooooooohhhh I don't know, man, the NBA doesn't have a lot of room for bigs that are zero perimeter threat these days.

I think there’s a possibility looking at the raw untapped talent. I like him as a Pascal Siakim type as a good comp. You look at Siakim early in his career and at NMSU versus the guy he is now and it’s like night and day.

I don’t think Kyle will develop that type of range in his game, but with some persistent tutelage, I think he can expand his offensive game.

Defensively and rim running, you already know what you’re getting. The ability to guard the 1-5 will be attractive for some.

He should’ve had more steals yesterday too. Our guys weren’t watching when he knocked the ball loose.

23 mins per game on an 11-2 team. Not bad for a "thug"
That’s his role. I watched him last year in several games. He consistently takes cheap shots in games. He’s constantly grabbing and fouling. Kyle actually demonstrates skill playing defense.

I don't know what that means.
From google AI -
“A player with a defensive rating of
59.5 in college basketball is an exceptionally elite and historically great defender. Defensive rating is an estimate of the points a player allows per 100 defensive possessions, so a lower number indicates superior defensive performance. “

Kyle continues to have a spectacular start to the season.

Drexel had two guys listed at 7' or taller, De Laporterie and Akuta. They combined for 7 points and 7 boards. Kyle went for 10 and 8 with 3 blocks and 3 steals. Statistically, Kyle did well, but the statistics didn't really capture his effect on the game.

Kyle is a really good player, on both ends of the court.

Delaware had a 6'11 center too. We've actually played teams with size this year. Not good players with size, but honestly there aren't many of those around.

Kyle is quick, he is long, he can jump, all of that helps him leave his man and get into passing lanes while never being too far away to recover. This, I think, has been this biggest difference maker between this year's D and last year's.

But also his smarts.

I feel like it hasn't been mentioned nearly enough, maybe not at all. Kyle is always in the right spots, and he doesnt get there by sumo wrestling his way into position the way Fab Melo or Arinze Onuaku did. He does it by being quick and anticipating. Its honestly amazing that he can get as many steals and weakside blocks as he does while also always being in good rebounding position. The guy deserves a lot of credit as a smart basketball player.
