William Kyle Appreciation Thread

How, in heaven’s name could

he not get much playing time at UCLA?

He was injured for most of the year, from what I understand.

The year prior, he was a high priority lower level transfer prospect, which is how he landed at UCLA.

Kudos to Alex Kline for targeting him, recognizing that he was a diamond in the rough if he could overcome the injury.

he also has no post moves to speak of and cant make free throws...only 6 rebounds against hofstra

I have been here lately only to be extremely negative towards Red because I hate losing and we have had too much losing or just playing down to our opponents.

But William Kyle has been a god damn Diamond in the Rough for us this year. I know the kid hasn't been a great FT shooter and his stroke for it looks as awkward as Charles Barkley Golf Swing or JJ's FT stroke, to be honest. But that's completely acceptable from a NCAA starting Center because the majority of NBA teams have centers that struggle from the FT line, so it is what it is.

This guy has been amazing and if we had somebody like Lampkin from last year starting at Center, you can almost guarantee we have 2 more losses (Tenn, Monmouth) and 1 probable loss(St. Joes), and all of our current loses would have been by a lot more.

So funny announcers say over and over why his form wasn't fixed years ago. Kyle played track and field his Freshman year of high school then switched to hoops. Last year he was on the line maybe 1-2 times a game. Before that not like he was getting elite coaching at South Dakota St, not like he is now either.

Obviously his FT's shooing form is atrocious but he appears to be shooting them "softer" now - of course, towards the end of the game when it got close he just chucked up rocks - maybe he's progressing though - I want to see him look to score more - he is actually skilled with good footwork close to the basket

William Kyle is the best player on this team!

you sure bout that?

its gonna be very hard for this team to win any game kyle gets in foul trouble

he was abused today vs clemson

they had 46 pts in the paint vs only 24 for the cuse

that was with donnie btw

2nd and 3rd center arent luxury players...they are vital to any good team

you would think in year 3 red would know to put a roster together

He certainly was not Jeremy McNeill at the back of the zone today. Clemson had no fear.

Yeah, I felt like being more aggressive on offense wasn't a great move. Not sure if that him, or we decided to push for more turnarounds. That being said, it's just as effective as most things we do. lol

On defense, I wonder how much it impacted him early that those fouls were sorta nonsense. Dude would lower the shoulder twice to clear out space, and then Kyle would get called for a foul. I didn't care much for the fouls they called on him - at least the ones I recall.
This is why players flop......overall he was fine though imo.

I thought that Soare had some nice moments when he was out there.

I think Sadiq White had a very poor game. I think that was a big problem. Donnie didn't really get going (or get as many minutes) until the 2nd half.

I love Kyle but he made a lot of mistakes down the stretch tonight. He somehow let a player who is a foot shorter than him make a critical three over him. He allowed two layups as the free safety in the full court press in the final couple minutes. And he made a horrible turnover when we had the ball down 2 at the very end. Again, I still love him.

i really thought that the only upside to having our best player out for a month would be the development of kyle and white. yesterday they seemed content to watch donnie instead.
