Yeah, winning is boring. While I prefer the up and down style that is SU, I appreciate the fundamental apporach to basketball that guys like Ryan and Knight have (had) as coaches. It is basketball in its purest form, and I enjoy it.

just add a 24 second shot clock and I'm cool with that.

While that may be true, if/when SU loses a few games this year, the board will implode and get into the inevitable discussion of zone vs man 2 man. The posts will all be about defense as they periodically are whenever SU hoops is discussed. In some years. that's ALL that is talked about.

I doubt UW fans ever have that problem.

Their offense is as boring as watching paint dry, but defensively they are top shelf most years. Ryan doesn't land a boatload of Mickey Dee's guys, and he isn't going to light up the scoreboard, but for hoops purists who enjoy seeing college defense played at its highest level, his teams are like watching a clinic.

It also makes boeheim's periodic statements that his teams are "not athletic/deep/insert your own adjective here enough to play MTM" ring hollow.

Nota bene for the board: This is NOT an attack on his decision to play almost exclusively zone. I do not want to turn this thread into yet another zone/mtm debate.

BTW Dick-MI, you were absolutely correct about MCW getting almost no run against NC St.

If there was only one way to play the game it would be pretty darn boring.

Agree 110%

I am constantly amazed at people that badger Wisconsin's offensive style (pun intended, of course). College basketball fans, I thought, liked the sport (in many cases better than the NBA) because of the intensity, the passion and for me... the diversity. I love the fact that you have probably 50 different offensive styles in college basketball, as opposed to the same 2-man pick-and-roll offense that permeates throughout the NBA.

As a self-proclaimed purist, I absolutely love Wisconsin's swing offense. It's brilliant basketball and they win games because they're disciplined are better than others. Maybe not more talented in all cases, but they simply execute their offense to perfection. It might be boring, but it's great basketball. I absolutely love college basketball because it gives me a chance to see diverse teams -- like Wisconsin.

Every now and then I get lucky with a prediction. Not often, but sometimes. That said, I now think MCW will get more run as the season progresses. JB has said he's not ready, but at the same time he is clearly trying to prepare him for real games.

If you had asked me a few weeks ago, I'd have said that the rotation will tighten to Triche, Dion, and Scoop exclusively once we start playing anybody in the BE with a decent team. I still feel that's probably the way it will unfold, but JB might try to find 3-4 minutes for MCW in at least a few of those games.

Don't worry, Forza. Others will gladly step up with toxic commentary on the zone/MTM debate as soon as we lose a game. Heaven forfend.
