I honestly don't think they're as good as Butler of years past.

Butler had more athletic players when we lost to them even though it's similar style. We roll comfortably by 10.

If Wiscy hits there 3s at a decent percentage we'll be in trouble; otherwise, we should be ok.

We better extend our zone. Wisconsin isnt able to hurt us inside and they wont beat us with 2 point shots. If I see Badgers running around jacking up open threes im going to smash my tv.
 
The zone will extend out and the Badgers will have a hard time finding open threes, unless the zone collapses on penetration. Wisconsin is patient offensively and so much the Orange be defensively.

That said, Syracuse has more talent and is more athletic and every single position. I've got Syracuse 68 Wisconsin 57

I've heard that said several times now. But what about Jordan Taylor? The Wisky point guard was a second team all-american in 2011 by AP and the Sporting News among others (put on 1st team AA by Fox). He was a preseason 2012 1st team All-American. Was on the 2011 Big Ten All-Defensive team. And is one the 11 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award.

SU does not have the most talent at every position. Scoop better come to play.

Scoop is no Jordan Taylor, but I trust him handling the ball. He doesn't get nearly as much credit for his ability to handle the ball as he should. We just need Scoop to push tempo the way he did against K State.
 
extending the zone is not a guaranteed cure all . . . they are not going to say "oh, we are covered, lest just take highly contested low percentage shots anyway." Ryan will make adjustments. It's not like they are contractually obligated to only shoot treys. They will try to take advantage of an extended zone and drive the gaps for better shots, then when they start hitting twos and the zone contracts, they will kick it out to whomever is left uncovered when the help comes.

Wisconsin is a very tough nut to crack. I thought all along that even though the Orange received a favorable draw in their bracket, Wisconsin (if they advanced) would be the most difficult possible game in our path. Can the Orange win? Of course. Will they? . . . they will probably have to play their best game of the year, and it will seem odd when they come away with a narrow win scoring in the 50s to call that their best game, but it could very well be true.

Scoop needs to take this as a personal challenge to his D and step up. Jordan averages the most points per game and the most assists per game for Wisky.

Scoop needs to buckle down on his D and try and limit the help D needed (so he doesn't get easy assist opportunities).

Also, Scoop needs to keep his focus and not try and outshine the AA. It is a team game and Scoop needs to use the talent advantages at the other positions for the benefit of the team, and avoid the one on one show down with the All American.
 
I love all these "All we need to do is extend the zone" posts. And then totally expose the middle of the zone?

Wisconsin bigs may not be that athletic but they are smart and fairly skilled. Get it to them at the middle of the zone against Rak with space and time, and they will likely deliver at a very high efficiency. Your also giving them more time to kick it back out for easier shots. That is an extremely dangerous strategy.

Furthermore, extending the zone will result in even less turnovers against a team that already controls the ball well. And turnovers are the key driver to our offence. I'm afraid at the even higher number of threes WE will shoot against that hard nosed defence.

We are better then Wisconsin. But the "these are unatheletic shooters, all we need to do is extend the zone posts" are just plain flawed in my opinion. Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin players are too smart and skilled for that.

i love the strategy jb has employed recently of not collapsing when they throw the ball to the middle of the zone. let the guy make a top of the key jumper. sometimes guys panic when they get the ball in the middle of the zone and nobody collapses on him cuz thats what he expects. its almost like "oh stuff, what do i do now". it worked against louisville...it worked against uconn...even the 2nd half against asheville it worked. as you say it may not work against wisconsin and jb may have to made an adjustment like moqui said if wisconsin is successful attacking that strategy, but id rather get beat by 2s than 3s. i still think guarding the 3 pt line is the #1 key to the game.

remember wiscy hasnt faced a zone all year (other than a northwesters 1-3-1 zone according to the badger fans here). when you hear zone you think youll get 3s. wisconsin players are probably thinking theyre gonna get alot of open 3s. take that away from them and i think we roll.

dude they shoot a ton of 3s a game. and theyre all pretty good 3 pt shooters. we cannot give up open 3s to these guys. did you watch the 1st half of the cincy game in the bet? we'll be down double digits at half again if we're more worried about helping inside on rak than defending the 3. lets not act like bo ryan invented coaching, his next final 4 will be his first.
 
Ryan said something about practicing half court shots yesterday, so I think he's actually working on a completely different strategy. I see Evans going to work in the area around the FT line. They're going to try and exploit Rak's inexperience.
 
I'd like to see a compact tight zone for the first 20-25 seconds of the shot clock denying any interior passes, followed by a sudden change to an extended active zone the final 10-15 seconds. The reason I say this is because one thing I've noticed a lot of teams trying to do against us is simply wearing down our energy on defense with a lot of "keep-away" ball movement through the high post just to make our zone move. There is nothing more demoralizing than energetically hustling around on defense for 30 seconds only to give up points on an open shot with seconds on the shot clock. And if there is anything we have learned the passed month it is that this team has to be active, moving, and confident to play well at all.
