Did they explain the plan on dealiing with all the scholies and the numbers that are now skewed? its far different in fball than in the other sports that are not usually full scholies in the first place.

Any senior that decides to stay an extra year their scholarship won’t count to the 85 scholarship limit.

Our 2021 class is heavy on the OL and DL. Those freshman can ALL now Redshirt in 2021 and not be rushed because we should have depth on the lines thanks to the Sr.s this year getting an extra year of eligibility.

I wouldn’t play any of the OL or DL true freshman next year let them get comfortable and that is how a program develops cohesion by redshirting OL and DL freshman.

ill be curious to see which seniors decide to stay and play again.

Take your pick:

Chris Elmore
Kingsley Jonathan
Devon Clarke
Rex Culpepper
Abdul Adams
Airon Servais
Patrick Davis
Nykeim Johnson
Josh Black
Aaron Hackett
Cody Roscoe
McKinley Williams

Probably anyone who has no shot of getting drafted might want one more year.

All of them coming back would obviously be helpful.

But Jonathan, Adams, Servais, Black and Williams are the top five I hope to retain.

But will those guys want to come back? or move on with their lives?

If a player opts to go pro but DOESN'T hire an agent or accept payment can they go through the draft and decide to return to college? or does declaring for the draft eliminate the extra year?

Are all these guys headed to graduate school then?

A lot will depend on how many games we play this season or the player plays this season .
We could be one and done play half or all of the season .some May grad transfer s well . If the season plays it’s a win for the team . This was all done to take a big bullet out of lawyers guns if a player sued later . Players can’t use the i was forced to play card ! Between the scholarship and eligibility it’s the players choice plain and simple

IMO most of those guys are huge if they return

Once you declare for the NFL draft, you're committed. Last year's deadline was Jan 17 for an April draft.

Assuming that Spring Football will push both dates back in 2021.

Not sure how it'll work now that all the Seniors aren't really Seniors. That may all have to declare their intentions to return or not return by a certain date.

In my opinion if you are not a guaranteed draft pick you should come back. An additional year gets you started on a masters degree for free. It also gives you more opportunities to improve as a player.

I know there will be players that feel they have to go or loose their window for the nfl or just want to move on with their lives.

6 years is a long time to spend in school. MBA's aren't for everyone.

I can't fault a guy for coming back to try to improve his draft stock, and I can't fault a guy for taking his degree.

Now, if someone Grad Transfers to UConn, that I'll fault someone for. :)

Tough decisions in the future. Having one more go around with your boys could be great. Starting your life though can be pretty good as well. New job, new city, new stuff to do, new people to meet. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Given the poor job market unless a kid can play for pay its a no brainer to come back get your 70k education, free room and board while pocketing a minimum of 500 a week in spending money.

A couple of quick thoughts.
  • It is really cool that the NCAA granted these kids the ability to return, and not penalize the school by having them count against scholarship limits
  • If a critical mass of these guys return, then we would really benefit [but so would other schools]
  • We could use the extra year of continuity, especially on the DL -- would kill to see Black, Williams, Jonathan, and newbie Roscoe all come back
  • I could see a situation where the fifth year transfer rule makes things crazy next year -- de facto free agency, given that some of these kids would be granted a "free" sixth year to complete their degrees

MBAs aren't the only type of graduate degree -- and MBAs are one of the most lengthy to pursue, relative to some others.

I think if guys have a chance to go pro, they should. If they aren't playing, then it makes sense to walk. And if they are playing but aren't NFL prospects, then maybe sticking around makes sense.

I don't think that there is any one right decision -- it is going to vary on a player-by-player basis.

But at the end of the day, this is nothing more than a "free" opportunity, and the players will have to decide for themselves what they want to do with said opportunity.

My guess is at most 5 guys on the seniors list are drafted or free agent signings. Williams, Black, Davis, Servais and Kingsly. Not trying to be harsh here, just not seeing the others in an NFL light. So I don't believe many if any will be cashing an NFL check. As OE mentioned 6 years is a long time. They are grown men. Some will stay for that last run and some will go if they have opportunities.

It’s a jungle out there no rush

Is the rule eligibility ruling the same for all classes or is there a distinction b/w seniors and the rest?

why not let kids work on a second undergrad major or minor or co-op with tripping a failure to progress wire

I would add one caveat to this rule.
Seniors get an extra year at their current school Only unless that school legitimately doesn’t have a graduate degree program you can get elsewhere.

I don’t want FA for these kids getting a free year and Alabama or the entire SEC having 120 players because they all want to go there and scholarship limits won’t matter for a year.

Only seniors who are returning to the same school won't count against the 85.

Transfers and grad transfers still count.
