7/9/57 Hank Soar, a New York Giant halfback from the 30’s and 40’s and American League Baseball Umpire for 30 years appeared on TTT. He scored the winning touchdown in the 1938 NFL championship game and was the head umpire when the Mets won the 1969 World Series.

Hank is the first contestant.

Cal Hubbard, the head of the AL Umpires, was also a former NFL player- and a Hall of Famer in both sports.

6/26/60 Referee Arthur Mercante. (type in “beer salesman”) He was the referee for the Patterson-Johanssen bout. But, like Robin Roberts and Bob Richards, they needed to guess his other job.

(Re: the “difficult and trying time” for Arlene: a maid in her apartment had knocked a barbell used to anchor a curtain off a window sill and it killed a man. It was presumably a harder time for him and his family than for Arlene.)
