Wolford had a one of a kind game

Agree, needed a full team on both sides to have beaten those guys.

Wofford is good, no doubt about that. However, for a few of the huge runs our defense was just putrid.

Julian was coached up in an aggressive blitzing system.

I understand how he feels.
It works, too. Miss. State damn near took down 'Bama with an aggressive D.

I'd like to see a defense that can be aggressive, stay in their lanes or whatever they can do to take advantage of any of the offenses weaknesses. Usually, SU has done pretty well in the second half with defensive adjustments but not against Wake. It seems like #22 for Wake never got hit hard and for that matter...not sure SU really hit anyone hard. The D was off balance that whole half and a good part of the first half as well. Give credit to Wolford and his OL for executing very efficiently.

It worked for Shafer at SU for a number of years.

He had trouble when he had to replace 9(?) starters in 2014.

We took down Clemson with our D

Tampa 2 sucks, always will suck, and there isn't a top 25 team that runs it. Didn't beat Clemson running the Tampa 2.

VaTech runs a similar scheme.

All I know is when we lose the Tampa2 sucks and when we win it's pretty good. You've maintained that it sucks which is good for consistency, but not exactly lining up with the facts.

It will always suck. And we won't crack the top 25, ever, with it as a primary scheme.

I wish I understood the x's and o's better.

This discussion is way beyond my understanding of the game.

As I recall, Monte Kiffin, who had invented the Tampa 2 and gained his reputation for it, tried it against the spread in college ball and was unable to stop it.

Stretch the field out, throw underneath, and get yards after the catch. And, because the D is usually only rushing 3 or 4, a QB can sit back for hours, or tuck and run (because the middle's open). If SU runs the T2 against Lousiville, they'll unceremoniously hand our taints to us on a rusty hub cap. Jackson will crush it, hard.

Thomas is the only LB I remember even touching a pass in the last few games.

no one stops the spread unless you're bigger and faster than everyone. we're still in this nfl mentality where we expect 21-17.

the tampa 2 is fine if you have safeties who know what they're doing. it's never going to be great, it's going to give up yards, and hopefully create more turnovers. the incompetence we saw on saturday wasn't because of tampa 2, it was because their qb was smart and our guys weren't

defense couldn't afford to lose cordy and they really couldn't afford to lose martin

that's not how I remember wake killing us. it was run pass option run against undisciplined defensive ends and pass against undisciplined safeties

Agree 100% -- people should pay attention to that last sentence.

My last post was how I'd attack if I'm Louisville. Didn't see WF game.

no defense works ff the DEs and safeties dont do their jobs well. We started the game fine and got wake into 2nd/3rd and longs all the first half and didnt stop the pass either. If the D had played the first quarter like the did the 2nd we are up 45-10 and wake is forced into full pass mode. That never happened and then the offense fell off the cliff, still if we make the 2 fgs we are ahead well into the 4th and who knows what happens then.

this game should teach everyone that full pass mode should never be a thing. running doesn't have to slow the game down. when you play fast all the time, you can keep doing what you do

But that's not what we've done. We've brought linebackers.

I don't know - 3rd down defense was #1 in the country until last week.

Louisville has the luxury of rolling out an O that doesn't get stopped by most defenses in CFB.
