Won tour of Melo Center...

Funny story…….. to me anyway. About 15 years ago, I was in Cuse for Christmas with my wife, 2 sons and a daughter.

one day after Christmas, I decided we were going to go exploring around SU and see what we could see. My wife and daughter decided to go shopping instead. Me and the 2 boys drove to the Dome and went in and looked around. Then we drove to the Melo center and checked the doors but they were closed and locked. We were disappointed to say the least. We tried every door, even to Manley, everything locked. We went back to the car to drive home.

Just then, a family walked up to the door and waited. I decided we should go wait there too. A few minutes later someone came and opened the door and we tailgated right in with the family. It turned out the family had won a tour of the melo center and everyone assumed we were with them. We got a full tour, the training rooms, the weight rooms, the coaches offices, the film room. Then we got to watch practice for about 30 minutes! It was awesome.

Two points about practice:
1) JB wasn’t even there while the individual drills were going on. Then when the team drills started, JB showed up and he was the only one who said a word (Very loudly)
2) there were two kids shooting on the second court during team drills. I later figured out that was Buddy and Jimmy.

My boys and I still remember this day and recall it often. Sure helped to cement their SU fandom, although it didn’t need a lot of help. My wife and daughter are still pissed they missed out!
That's an awesome story and is further evidence of what you can get by showing up on life.
I've gotten impromptu stadium tours on off-days just by loitering and asking someone if I could just come in and get a glimpse of the court/ field.

That, I could abide.
I do remember maybe 1992ish? The "dude" lit a cigarette in section 248 maybe row e... Everybody was kinda shocked but he sat there and smoked the whole thing and noone said a word. I was 15 and snuck beers in. I thought it was awesome!

I know it sounds crazy but it happened! Amazing how far we have come as far as smoking ciggs!

Reminds me when Cantina Laredo hired me to be there kitchen manager at the future bustling location at the big destiny usa! They flew me out to there headquarters in Dallas. Put me up in a shitty hotel 27 miles away from the original cantina I was to train at. So I did a test drive the night before so i had an idea how long it would take to get there...It took me 1 hour and 22minutes during evening rush hour. I had to be there at 7AM. I left at 5AM and got there at 7:02. The woman that was my trainer showed up at the door with an amazing startling attitude. YOU ARE 4 MINUTES LATE! I checked my phone and it said 7:02...And Im like im sorry it took me over 2 hours to get here, Im not from around here and Im not too happy about these arrangements. I drove by 30 hotels to get here.
Whatever, bla bla bla. I continued on with the day. To make a long story short the training was a joke...they treated the "illegals" awful, something I had never witnessed before. They gave me a 400 page book to study. I showed up next day at 6:30 and they gave me a written test based on the book..I needed a 90% to pass. I got a 96. And they gave me the concerned talk about my low score...
Haha... Im a cowboys fan so i took there rental car straight to the new dallas stadium and just walked around trying to get in. I eventually joined a formal tour and spent the day there.
Next day did typical dallas sightseeing, food eating and deep ellum blues!
When I got back to the hotel that night I had airline instructions back home. Seeya.

Cantina laredo didnt last 3-4 years?
