worry about your own team coach k

Reasonable minds can disagree. Is this a huge deal? No. The comment to the kid was ok, not great but ok, the press conference was a bit ridiculous (and disingenuous) but not a huge deal. But in my view big loss by big loss Coach K is cementing his legacy as one of the least gracious losers in the history of major college basketball.

To follow my own comment -- full disclosure -- friend of mine told me last night he has played golf w/Jim Nance a few times and that Nance singles out Coach K as someone in sports he has high respect for. So I've got to give that some credit. But the point of many re: Coach K's classless post game conduct was further illustrated by Few last night, and the way he handled himself amidst intense disappointment. Some folks make good decisions in those situations some do not. Coach K often does not. Calhoun was the same way -- recall his comments post 6 OT and how little he complimented his players. I am sure he did on reflection, but in the moment he was too pissed to being anything but pissed. Coach K is the same way.

I thought the general rule is if you're comfortably ahead and you have the ball for the LAST possession of the game, it's bad form to take a shot. But apparently Oregon did not have the last possession because the Daily News article said Brooks took the shot with 10 seconds on the game clock but two on the shot clock. So, not the last possession.

(Also, this rule doesn't necessarily apply if the walk ons are in the game and the crowd is begging them to shoot.)

Lost a lot of respect for him this year. Total crybaby and classless as hell when they lose. Worry about your own team. You got taken to the woodshed tonight. No need to make a kid feel bad. What an ass. Coming from the coach who has had a player trip someone on purpose on numerous different occasions and do nothing about it.

LOL...yeah, this is kind of a great point. I mean, it wasn't an even an isolated incident for Allen and no real consequences.

Dakich on Gameday:

"I went into the coaches conferences and always said to the other coaches, if I run the score up on you, don't say anything to me. If you do it to me, I won't say anything. If I do it, I have a reason for my players to be playing that way, I assume if you do it you have a reason you're doing it for your team. Just coach your own team, stop worrying about the other team."

I have lost much respect for K this year as well. I don't think it would be as big of an issue if it wasn't for where he graduated from. Like it or not he is held to a different standard and should be. And, he should know it. This is especially respective of Allen's tripping incidents. K should have taken care of that the first time it happened and it would be a non-issue now. It's a matter of integrity and respect for the game, IMO. Aren't coaches and sports supposed to teach character and life lessons as well as skills and winning? That's what we're all told and that is what many of us would say that our coaches taught us. I would think this would be an even bigger point of emphasis for a West Point graduate.

He also came across as a crybaby and sore loser in his post game after Cuse beat them. Even if it was a foul at the end how many close calls have gone his way over the years? Or. even, in THAT game? Guess who should be too good of a coach to do that? Now, in addition to everything else, he comes across as a hyprocrite.

As far as the Brooks incident, he didn't shoot to rub it in. His coach told him to shoot at the end of the shot clock. Who wouldn't do that? It's not like they were up by thirty. He basically histed it from about 28' and it happened to go in. I highly doubt K would have said "Just let the shot clock run out." In my mind, wouldn't that be more of a slap in the face?

It's the best leadership development institution in the world, Mike, start representing.
