Worst March Ever - Time for the Football Program to Step Up.

I don't worry much about the 1-AAs, but I'll admit I do worry about them a little more when we head in to them with an 0-2 record. You just never know the mindset of the team after a start like that.

Having it as the first game of the year, I don't worry at all about us overlooking them. Working out the first game kinks can be a problem, but not the effort that we'll see.

Your absolutely right about facing an opponent when your coming in 0-2 to start with. We have see that in previous years with Syracuse coming in sluggish while the 1AA comes in pumped up thinking it can steal one from a Div 1A school. Thats why I liked the Wagner game last year, no matter how many kinks we might have had there was no way were losing that game even in Grob coached. Now I am certainly not worried about losing to Villanova or anything like that but I worry a little bit about the team seeing 1AA on the schedule and thinking were playing Wagner again. Nova is light years ahead of Wagner and a much better team. I would just had to come out and start sluggish and before you know it its 10-0 Nova or something like that and the game turns into the Maine and Rhode Island games under Marrone where were in for a closer then needed game for 4 quarters.

I think this program should be at the place where even though its the first game of the year, we should be up a couple scores at half over a team like Nova.

I'm really not that doom and gloom. I thought we had a terrific season. It happens. We will be back. We will continue to recruit well and have a chance every year. Another Championship is bound to happen sooner or later because we have kids that can play anywhere. Mix that with Hall of Fame coaching and Great Coaching, I'm honestly optimistic and I'm not just saying that. I'm upset but I got over it easier this year because they made me proud. It happens. Move on to next year.

Your right it's been a long wait from 1959

You wouldn't know it from the news coming out of the program that there was spring practice going on. Even after Marrone closed practices the daily post practice interview session was posted on OAA and there was a couple of minutes of footage from every practice and scrimmage.

There has hardly been anything this spring.

So much for a refreshing era of fan friendly policies. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Pretty frustrating. Can't believe it actually got worst as far fan access. It's not like there is a lot of us. It's especially frustrating seeing almost every other school having open practices and daily reports.

Ignorant post here... Seriously how much are they really protecting by keeping practice closed? Its not like by the fourth game (ND) that the ACC won't have enough tape to know our play makers and offense for the most part. Are we really worried about Nova, Central Mich, and Maryland getting a jump start on game planning against us? Seriously, cause this seems a little overkill to completely shut down any and all publicity opportunities to install a new system, that has pretty much the same players as last year. I hope TH drastically improves, but I don't expect to see a John Elway clone out there and I doubt anyone else does either.

Don't know - the reports that have come out have been very high on THunt.

I'll never forget the spring practices of 1995, walking over to Coyne Field, and being close enough to watch the McNabb/Downing/Johnson competition that each of them almost ran me over on the sidelines during option runs. It was scary how close you could get to the action. (And for what it's worth, none of those 3 QBs could hit the broad side of a barn in those practices).

The Bees and the internet ruined everything. (I kid Bees, it's the internet's fault).

Even then it wasn't as limited as now, a little less each year. Oh well, I don't see it changing. I figured with more depth and the same staff (who are you surprising) that this spring might open up. It's not going to happen. Which is why I made the point earlier that they should close the Spring Game too. You only get 15 practices, not worth turning your most important one into a paranoia vanilla experience.

If this is our first legitimately good team in forever, the schedule ramps up perfectly. After the beating we laid on Under Armour U last year, I see no reason we shouldn't start out 3-0. If we do, we'll bring a 5-game win streak and a ton of momentum into the ND game, and anything will be possible.

I look forward to not starting out the year in a hole, and hope this type of scheduling continues.

The 2012 team was "legitimately"good.

You're right. If we didn't get completely boned by the refs in the Cincy game we would have went to a BCS bowl.

and if Pugh was healthy all year. we got boned a lot that year too. so many plays that could have made it a huge year

I still think about this all the time.. Reddish dropped pick 6, Lyn pasd interference and soo many others. At the end of the year we were a top 15 team. There is no doubt in mind we would have beaten Florida in the sugar bowl.

That really was an amazing job by Marrone.

Last season - if Reddish gets by that Penn St hog - he'd have another pick 6 and maybe the win. We pull off the fake vs Pitt - and who knows? 9 wins?

Completely agree about Pugh. We could have made a BCS that year for sure if the breaks went our way. Side note: does anyone know if there will be BCS bowls anymore with the playoff system? I assume that there are upper echelon games for the teams that just miss the playoffs. I'm pretty ignorant to how the new system will work.

College football is my favorite sport, so being able to watch SU Friday night and then the full slate of games all day Saturday is a dream come true for me. But to each their own.
I love friday night games. I can come home from work, relax, and catch the game. Then on saturday I can watch any big match ups that interest me, or get outside and enjoy the southern fall weather.

Yes, there will be an upper echelon of bowls in the new system. The selection committee is responsible for setting the matchups for all 6 games (Rose, Sugar, Orange, Chik-fil-a, Cotton & Fiesta). The top 4 teams selected go into the semi-finals that rotate among these bowls. The other spots are filled by the committee based upon guaranteed tie-ins (i.e. ACC champ to the Orange) and any remaining at larges to create the best matchups.

In the case of the ACC, if the champ is among the top 4, the second place ACC team would be selected to take the Orange bowl host spot.

So from now on you will never will be fooled again?

I don't mind the closed door stuff. They win and I'm happy.

The 2013 team could have been 4-8 to 10-3 depending on breaks and calls.

Thanks for the insight.
