Worst Roster Since When?

agree, there are lots of unknowns. I tend to think a lot of those are positive but it's impossible to really define the talent level of the team. There's a lot of upside. Will all of it materialize? Who knows.

I also dont think we lost much on O. But I'm not as high on Gill as others on this board are.

Even so with Gill, he still was at 30+ catches and 500+ yards each of the last two seasons. Right now who would you pencil in to surpass that?

I think it will be WR by committee kinda of like 2018.

Also if anyone actually looks at the portal grades guys get, they'd realize very little thought is put into them outside the top guys. 5k guys get dropped in the portal right away and we think those are serious ratings? Even for some of our guys who left who I liked -- those ratings are a joke.

If you weren't a top 100-250 guy in the portal, your ranking means very little. So a lot of portal rankings have to do with volume.

Fran's been very clear that we're a developmental program. The '25 and '26 classes were our top in modern history. The 25's are already littered across the two deep. I expect a number of '26s to crack the two deep as well.

Just because you don't see guys you know or like doesn't mean they're bad.
In fairness, if we are going to be a developmental program, we need to keep more of the guys we are developing. While it may be true that losing some of these guys are addition by subtraction... for fans, it is good to have continuity. "I hope this is the year that X takes it to the next level" vs. "Who is this Y guy again"? I get we will have 90 days of pumping this roster up before the opener... but right now it is cold/sober.

Just looked over the roster, and... it’s pretty bleak. Our quarterback is coming back from a serious injury, we’re returning roughly 200 rushing yards, our leading receiver had nine catches last year, and there are new faces across both lines. O3 ranks the portal class last in the ACC, and second worst in P4

Maybe some of the newcomers have real potential, but it’s hard not to be surprised that three years into Fran’s tenure we appear to have sub-Dino-level talent at nearly every position. Feels like this experiment could be over after next season.
We're ahead of Duke, Clemson, Wake Forest, Boston College and Pitt in transfer rank on 247

Yeah idk, people are trying to spin it the best they can but not single on-paper impact transfer is walking through door. I don’t think that’s anyone’s fault necessarily but it may prove out that 2024 was just a lucky break versus the sign of the future. Got big names to come in and they performed. Perhaps Angeli will be incredible like McCord but I feel like it’s a lot to expect him to take this receiving core and level them up to a place where would compete for a spot in the top 25
The most important thing out of the transfer class is that we are bringing in the 1st team CUSA QB as a backup.

This is from a prior post I did so numbers could be a little off…the question is whether our portal guys contribute and start at some key positions on D. I’m not worried about the wide receivers. Even with Gill and Cook, younger guys were pushing for time last year, including several true freshmen. And we have a lot of talent coming in that will see the field right away. Wide receiver is a position where a freshman can make an impact. Miami did with a three star.

****

2025 was the first full recruiting class. Of the 2025 class, how many have left? I count four but could be wrong. And we kept all the ones we wanted to. That’s good so far.

Of the 2025 class, it appears that at least 15 will be on the two deep with a number of starters. That’s good.

2024 was a quick class given when he got hired. However after two years I agree you hope to keep the ones that matter.

Of all the guys, it appears that 18 (may have missed a few) are gone from the HS ranks. Most of the transfers stayed but obviously didn’t have as much eligibility.

It’s more mixed in terms of keeping the ones we would have hoped to keep.

The biggest issues in the 2024 class:

-KJE (off field issues)
-Yasin (off field issues)
-Barnes (transferred for playing time)
-Watson (obviously big loss, money - I would have paid up more to keep him even if we couldn’t match what Texas offered)
-Ross (could be a big loss, but we appeared to rectify the psycho WR coach mid season)
-Hornsby - could be we will see but highly rated and showed potential

Kerr, Vito, Tremble, Elijah will be on two deep. Kerr was a bit of a diamond in rough guy. Credit to probably Stack for that one. Remains to be seen on a few others like Braheem but they could be on two deep.

So batting below average on 2024 but above on 2025. But between the two classes we will probably have at least 20 on the two deep and probably more as the staff is high on a lot of the ‘25 kids who redshirted.

Sort of like the on the field results. One great season. One bad.

2026 class is the highest ranked so it’ll be interesting to see who plays right away and who is on the two deep by the end of the year. I suspect we’re going to see a lot of 25’s and 26’s playing. The issue as you pointed out is missing on some of the top guys from 24 may have set us back. We need to replace that depth and starting potential in the portal.

Casually forgets to add Angeli is already throwing, will only be kept out of some drills in spring ball as precautionary and will be full go for summer camp

Casually forgets to add we probably had our best high school recruiting class ever with 2 stud receivers coming in

Casually forgets to add that some of the kids that transferred that were “bigger” names were asked to move on because of issues off the field. Some of them pretty big issues. We went 3-9 last year, was there really anyone on the team where it’s like damn we lost that guy we need him back so we can win 3 games again

Casually forgets to mention the coaching overhaul and how our new DC would run circles around Robinson

Literally my biggest concern is safety, and o-line. We have a legit coach at o-line so he will coach them up. We’ll have 3 returning starters on the o-line and satieties we actually have a legit DC now that will coach to the players strengths. We’ll be fine. We aren’t winning the championship but we sure as hell aren’t going 3-9 again. We’ll go somewhere between 5-7 and 8-4
How many of our new recruits this year will be on the team in two years. It seems a lot of players leave after year 1. The transfer portal is very important and how we got to 10-3 with Kyle Mcord. Being the worst t the transfer protal is not a good indicator.

Yikes, I know its a Wednesday, but maybe put the alcohol and edibles down for the rest of the day.

Yikes, what a bad take.

For starters we weren’t the worst.

We’ve also retained all the key 25s.

Worst roster since... last year when we went 3-9 and gave up at 3-6.

Why would anyone be upset over losing most players off a shamblic season? We kept most of the top performers, no reason to assume anyone coming in will not be better than putrid.

And last year's roster was still 6-6 with a QB so why wouldn't this season be at least that with 2+ QBs?
