i use to like Shafer but he needs to go after giving the ballgame away. Total BS call that no other coach in the country would have made with over 9 minutes to go only down 7 on your own 38 yard line.

Dude we are on our 4th string qb. Our two best wide receivers are out and most of our oline is hurt. I am no apoligist but What? You expected better?

They are comically idiotic. And it will never change -- this is their mindset. They diminish risk at every opportunity when they don't need to, and then go with the riskiest play possible in a one score game. It's like they are coaching with a magic eight ball to help make decisions for them.

You can appreciate the effort of the team (specifically the defense) while still calling into question what the coaches are doing (like making nonsensical fake punt calls on 4th down in a one score game).

If you have 3 minutes left and are down by one score, I see it. If you have 9 minutes left and the defense has been playing lights out ...What?????

Right and wrong. He doesn't ned to go. He needs to grow as a coach. Right because that fake wasn't near woth the risk. What do we have if we get it?? Nothing. A first down at the 33. If we don't, we give them a FG and we are out of the game. But last week we wouldn't go for a 4th and 5 from the 37 Bad and dumb.

In our own territory, no matchup advantage in a one score game. I really do like this staff, but, I just don't understand.

There was so much wrong with that call.

Injuries play a role but this is a recurring theme marsh.

Enough with the injury excuse. It has an impact, yes, but questionable choices for two seasons now.

It's amateur hour. It is just not fun to watch us play this game.

And not to you specifically marsh, just in general!

Which is why i took a step back and have low expectstions for this program and dont get upset anymore. Its easier to watch and much easier post game.

I want to believe that they have the gear, but they aren't helping me get there. The play calling at our goal line was bewildering to say the least. We're playing checkers in a conference that plays chess.

AND the fake punt - I bet most fans watching saw it coming.

I still have questions about OL. How much of the line talent wa coached up by the previous staff? The subs don't seem to be very functional.

The best think I can do is tape the last two games and watch them during bowl season. Maybe then I won't get so depressed.

I'm getting to that point as well. The new ceiling is 8-4 and minor bowl.

Oh hell that is a national championship to me. Im 44 years old and i will state that we wont see 10 wins as a program before i turn 60.

Shafer just has no feel for the game. Punts when he should go for it, and then goes for it when he should punt.

I feel bad for the defense. Those guys played their hearts out.

Im a huge HCSS fan but that has to go down as one of the worst calls ever. I have no idea what he was thinking about there was nothing to gain from that call. Simply horrible coaching

What were others hoping for?

Ceiling for me is 8-4 with a bowl game each year. I would be ecstatic with this.

We will never be a ten win team, imo.

Brandon reddish is as good of a cover corner as we've had in a long time... Defense played tremendous, as usual. If we were potent at all on offense we'd be bowling... Very disappointed.

I hate to say this so soon after the game when emotions are running high, but I have been thinking this for some time. Shafer seems to react (and not all that quickly) to the game with little or no anticipation. It is like he is playing checker in a chess playing conference.

He calls timeouts randomly with no concern for saving anything for the end of the half/game. Worse yet, to let 9 or 10 seconds tick off the clock before calling a TO is inexcusable. Lat game there were 37 seconds left and we took 8 seconds to call the TO.

He has to think about things like fake punts before the game ever begins. Didn't he realize that it would be obvious? Didn't he figure that the DC would have it schemed?

Going for two or FG vs going for TD - all these things must be pre-though and then decided based on game situation.

I realize that there is no teacher quite as effective as experience, but after 23 games surely things ought to have improved by now.

Our defense is as good ACC defense, which I would take any year. The offense is not even D-1 quality at the moment. Shafer seems to be all in on Lester, which baffles me. It is going to take years for him to gain the requisite experience and I don't think Shafer has that long to get results. Maybe I'm wrong.

One last thought, Shafer seems to be on the verge of imploding. The temper tantrums are getting worse. He needs to be the calm presence on the sidelines not the out-of-control lost and bewildered madman.
Really hope he can get it together and really pulling for him to succeed.

That "Fake Punt", the clock management at the end of the first half, and then the 3rd and 11 inside our own 1 yard line and we call timeout for some reason. I lost the little hope I had left that he is head coach material. I know he won't get fired but I have zero hope he will improve much if any next year and we won't be in the same place a year from now.

Some guys are just coordinators and there isn't anything wrong with that. It's a nice living and you will do well. Some guys just aren't head coaches and Scott falls into that category

Reddish really is a stud but Whigham has been a huge dud. Image how bad his backups are? OMG

after our punt coverage teams terrible display of covering/tackling at that point in the game going for the fake.

We play bizarro football. Up is down, black is white, dogs and cats sleeping together.

When we need to throw a fade, we have our running QB shot put it.

When we need two yards, we have our smallest back run it.

When we should go on 4th down inside the opponent's 40, we punt.

When we should punt on 4th down inside our own 30, we fake a punt.

When we should punt the ball out of bounds, we punt right to our opponent's best playmaker.
