Worst timed fake punt ever

We play bizarro football. Up is down, black is white, dogs and cats sleeping together.

When we need to throw a fade, we have our running QB shot put it.

When we need two yards, we have our smallest back run it.

When we should go on 4th down inside the opponent's 40, we punt.

When we should punt on 4th down inside our own 30, we fake a punt.

When we should punt the ball out of bounds, we punt right to our opponent's best playmaker.

It's all coaching. It's easy to just say...bad luck, too many injuries. But with a healthy squad those decisions are still terrible!

If you've made up your mind to go for it on 4th down, why not just run a play with your offense?

i use to like Shafer but he needs to go after giving the ballgame away. Total BS call that no other coach in the country would have made with over 9 minutes to go only down 7 on your own 38 yard line.

I still like shafer, would love to have a beer with him. Hope it works out as a coach for him.

But that play has me starting to think it may not.

Shafer just has no feel for the game. Punts when he should go for it, and then goes for it when he should punt.

I feel bad for the defense. Those guys played their hearts out.

It's kind of strange.
His father was a football coach. He grew up around coaching all his life.
He's got a good connection to players but with offensive play calling, he often looks like he doesn't know what he's doing.

Brandon reddish is as good of a cover corner as we've had in a long time... Defense played tremendous, as usual. If we were potent at all on offense we'd be bowling... Very disappointed.

I have said this before, but the defense plays good enough for us to be competitive and win our share but the offense is a disaster.
We elevated a defensive coach so that is what we should expect, the problem is he did not bring in a OC to organize and run our offense we have an offense designed by the inexperienced and then run by the unprepared. This must be corrected in this off season or Shafer is going to be history.
I hope this bye week will enable our injuries to heal, and maybe Lester can do a little tweaking of the offense, but the off season and perhaps coaching changes is the only hope of a major change in offensive scheme and execution.
