Just smoked Barchi and the RU press conference. To paraphrase, called Barchi's comments higher-education speak. And if that's the man that the RU Trustees leading their school, more power to them.

This is why Bilas is the best. I don't always agree with him. But he never equivocates. He says it, and why.

Bilas is awesome. Scathing commentary. No patience for bullsh!t. Such a Big Picture guy. He gets it. His remarks about the "dancing" university president are dead on. That was a painful press conference to listen to. RU pres was owned by the press and kept digging himself deeper. Bilas, as usual, is dead on.

Gottlieb says what he thinks as well. But for some reason, people around these parts do not care for him.

We have a lot of sensitive fans at SU that get very defensive at negative comments about the team. I like Gottlieb! I can relate to him more than any other talking head.

Here is the thing about Gottlieb, he does know a lot and when he's really into deep college bball talk, he is great.

But he knows what makes money and he goes trolling enough to keep the vitriol coming.

It's fine. It's his show. He needs listeners and viewers to make money. But he definitely has more troll-a-thons quite a bit.

Bilas doesn't troll and is smarter than Gottlieb.

Not a huge knock on Gottlieb, but he is what he is.

Gottlieb went out of his way to offend Syracuse fans. I like his honesty - and don't mind when he's killing our team or coach - but taking shots at fans points to a character deficiency.

With Gottleib, there is still an aspect that he says things to get a reaction. Always trying to be just a bit controversial, a bit topical. With Bilas, there is none of that. Even if his opinion is typical, he can express it in such a way that you know he has given it some thought, and not simply regurgitated the common view. And when he disagrees, it isn't just to get a reaction. Big difference between the two IMHO.

Bilas took a huge and unequivocal stance on this issue. Regardless of whether you believe his stance is justified or not, I had the feeling while listening to Bilas that he is destined for higher things than commenting on basketball games for ESPN.

Bilas, being a lawyer makes his take on things to me more interesting, thought provoking and insightful. He's not glib - he analyzes and comments about controversial subjects while not giving off the vibe that he relishes controversy to remain relevant.

Its the way gottlieb says the things he says. He comes off as a dick. You can he critical in a thoughtful and unequivocal way without being a jerk about it.

Agree 100%. It is exactly his thought provoking insight and his ability to articulate his thoughts that leads me to believe that Bilas could make a great politician, commissioner, or.....president of the NCAA.

I think also that Gottlieb is too anecdotal at times. He struggles to balance injecting himself as an example vs using a more holistic approach like Bilas does. Both are blunt and call it the way they see it but one clearly (Bilas) has much better delivery. I don't mind Gottlieb at all, he just makes me laugh when he consistantly uses himself or his experience as an example. Once your given a role like he has - there is no need to read your resume to others - just speak your peace. If someone calls you on it then go ahead and fill in where you derive that opinion from.

Bilas of president of the NCAA - currently employed NCAA officials would be pissing themselves if this happened. He absolutely makes valid and clear points about how poor they have been of late.

Bilas has been highly critical of Emmert recently. He talked about the defiance of entitlement and a sense of being "tone deaf" to real issues. Loved it.

Cause gottleib is usually wrong when he says what he thinks

Agreed with most here...he knows his stuff...but unfortunately Gottlieb took the Cowherd practice of stating things that can't be disproven unless someone wins like 10 titles.

Like this deal from earlier this year.

"The reaction is due to my fervent belief that we overuse the term "great," and it becomes an easy crutch: Jimmy B is great. But is he truly elite, über-elite?"

So see...even if we win this year...JB is great...but is JB TRULY elite? It's a never ending debate in circles. Great for trolling people, I guess.

Perfect. Was about to post "Bilas is brighter and doesn't view his role as that of entertainer as much as Gottlieb does," but you nailed it.

Bilas is right.
Kind of.
This news conference probably sank Barchi.

It's clear that he intentionally did not view the video back in December in order to give himself plausible deniability.
It's the deniability that he just used to give himself an out and try to keep his phony baloney high-paying job.
It's "Hey, I didn't really know how bad it was. I didn't view the tape."

OK, why not?
Wasn't that part of your job to see the evidence against your coach before making a decision?
Of course it is.

So, Barchi did not do his job.
He put aside protecting his students and even his university in the interests of protecting himself first.

It seems the guy has got to go.
Can't be long before the Fatman tells him so.

It's clear that he intentionally did not look at the tape in December to give himself wiggle room deniability if the story ever blew up.
Just the kind of wiggle room he used today.
He thought he had an out.

But by not viewing the tape BEFORE making a personnel decision on his coach he didn't do his job.
He top priority should have been getting the facts, protecting his students and even protecting his university.
Instead he chose to protect himself.

Hard to see how he can ride this out.
The sentiment against him is only going to grow.
More will come out.
At some point soon the Fatman will tell him he has to go.
The sooner the better for Rutgers.
