Wow, those uconn fans sure are a bitter bunch...

Want venom? Go read the Marquette or Providence boards. On the subject of Syracuse many Marquette fans sounds like the wife who catches her husband in bed with her two best friends. Providence fans think Syracuse is a cesspool of sin (but they are even more pissed we have "betrayed" the Big East by taking our filthy ways on the [tobacco] road).

The most brutal thread I've seen from an opposing fanbase on the subject came from the Georgetown forum (not surprisingly).

Seriously, I think if the Muslims in Afghanistan had created a thread dedicated to those American forces who burned the copies of the Koran, it would contain much less malice than what that thread contains. Those Hoyas aren't very fond of the Cuse.

He's throwing a bunch of stuff against the wall and seeing what sticks.

Basically agree - although it would be really cool if the Boneyard folks could look at all the stuff that has happened regarding Syracuse with the same level of clarity. I'm pretty sure 75% of your board are convinced Fine is a pedophile, Syracuse covered it up, the 2003 national championship team should have its title stripped because there were obviously drug users on the team, etc.

people in general get really interested in detail and facts when it's their ox being gored...when it's your rival facts be damned, they're guilty. It's why the media gets away with this nonsense, because very few people have the maturity to be able to view articles and stories clearly regardless of who is involved. For any story the stakeholders are the minority in the public at large, so the media knows they never have to worry about the majority of their readers/viewers thinking about a story critically. And they've gotten lazy and sloppy as a result.

We'll have lousy, biased reporting until Syracuse fans can see what a lousy article this was, Boneyard folks can critically question what the media has presented in the Fine/drug sagas, and people in general can do the same with everything the media is presenting.

The whole article was written as polar opposites of events. He kept saying this "could" happen or nothing could happen for everything he brought up. And everything he brought up is possible and some of your own fans have talked about those same possibilities although at different times.

Reminds me of the energy expert we hired at one company. Every month he sends out a gigantic report, which always concludes that energy prices could go up, or they could go down. unless, of course, they stay the same. I could never figure out why we paid him for that crap. I feel the same about Pete if that's the kind of article he's getting paid to write.

I believe that this is the average Uconn fan's reply to anyone who questions their program:

All you mother******* are gonna pay. You are the ones who are the ****-lickers. We're gonna **** your mothers while you watch and cry like little bitches. Once we get to New Orleans and find those other teams who are playing , we're gonna make 'em eat our ****, then ****out our ****, then eat their **** which is made up of our **** that we made 'em eat. Then you're all you ********** are next. Love, UConn Fan.

Bonus points if you know the quote.

He's throwing a bunch of stuff against the wall and seeing what sticks.

He suggests that the Uconn administrators may "nudge Calhoun" out the door, despite acknowledging later in the article that the school president loves Calhoun, the new AD has no intention of telling him to leave, and Calhoun himself said he has no intention of retiring.

He suggests that Oriakhi may transfer, only to later point out that Oriakhi has been quoted as having no interest in doing so.

He suggests that Drummond was "recruited late in the summer" just to mock the NCAA sanctions. That's not exactly how it all went down. By the way, there's not a single coach in the entire country that would have turned down Andre Drummond, scholarship or no scholarship.

Not sure how you can write a "decent" article discussing Uconn's future without at least mentioning 1) the practice facility that's scheduled to be completed by 2014, 2) the fact that the APR tournament ban is still not set in stone, and if overturned, would render this whole discussion useless and 3) the fact that Kevin Ollie, at the very least, has been a successful recruiter since joining the coaching staff.

Good points, but many of your compatriots seem to be directing their Drummond-size meltdown at SU rather than the writer. In case they havn't noticed, we're a little sore at the media ourselves.

Agreed.

Truth is, most of what is contained in that article is true--whether they want to accept it or not. But the article definitely was harsh--Thamel certainly didn't pull any punches.

But their fanbase is collectively the biggest bunch of douchebags I've ever seen. Anyone who has attended the BET knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Here, here. I was at the BET last year. Everyone was enjoying the rivalries unti the SU-UConn game. 6-8 Huskie fans showed up and camped out in the seats behind us. They were as vile as any of the quotations above -- even on stupid things (free throws). We got into it a couple of times when popcorn started flying (maintaining civility, of course). But they insisted on behaving like children -- and even refused to shake hands after they won and we said, "good luck, nice game".

Did they deserve to be treated politely? Of course not. But we do what we do, and they do what they do.

In response to this seemingly impartial Thamel article, where he does nothing more than tell it like it is...

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/09/s...head-for-uconn.html?smid=tw-nytimes&seid=auto

A few of their fans displayed their respect and admiration for their long-time rivals...

"He is a Syracuse douche bag who should be worrying about his own alma mater. They should be worrying about how to protect ball boys and how to prevent drug dealers hanging out with their basketball team."

"It wasn't long ago Fruits got their own APR problem. NCAA hammer will drop on that school soon enough and I hope this Thammel scumbag will be brave enough to write an article about his own school."

"Sucks to be an alum of Syracuse, the most dirty program in the land. Molesters, drug users, drug user abettors...hey, all good."

"Nothing like seeing UConn crushing SU in student selectivity, admissions and academic rankings. Must be so hard, so hard, to watch."

"Thamel could f___ Bernie Fine's wife up her a__ while snorting coke off of Boeheim's flaccid p____."

Honestly some of the responses are a joke I agree...have you read some of your fellow fans replies on the CONvicts nirvana? Don't make me laugh please.....

Good luck the rest of the way...teams good, tough, experienced and DEEP...I like your chances but the big guys have to rebound better when and if they play a Kentucky, Michigan State or UNC...didn't haunt you vs the Huskies as their inexperience showed down the stretch and their inability to shoot it well...I expect your guys will shoot it better (hopefully ours too) but no matter the boards stats will need to be closer....love the fact JB and the boys were able to take Lamb out of the game that bodes well against teams who have a go-to guy....BE title is a cinch I think...
