i'm probably a bit older than most. grew up near new York. we had the first tv on the block, maybe 1949. i think cbs was first followed by nbc and years later abc. I was just a little kid, but I do know tv was only on a couple hours daily. that we could watch jb's press conference to some is just normal but to me, wow. im amazed that the paper is in here daily; thanks. we get a paper but it is easier to read on line left hand doesn't work that good. im rambling but I cant believe the progress we've made. sorry for the rant

I love it that we out-of-town fans can follow SU basketball in many forms, whether it be on TV, streaming, or here on this forum. When I first moved out of Syracuse in the 80s, this wasn't possible.

Yeah - used to subscribe to some (monthly?) paper dedicated to SU sports. Always loved when it arrived. Vaguely recall that Donna Ditota was involved in it.

We're contemporaries, Igor. I lived on Thompson Rd. in Syracuse until I was about 10, until we moved to James St. We had the first tv in my neighborhood of Thompson Rd, Boston St., Burns Ave, etc in Eastwood. My friends used to come over and we'd crowd around the tiny screen. Your memory serves you well: there was about four hours of programming a day, including shows I recall (reaching here) like Zorro, Sky King, some news, and lots of network pattern.

Sky King - Penney was Hot!

Sad to see you did not get the Dumont (WHEN) network, I did not either. since it was gone before I was born.
I wonder if the people who protest about the Washington Redskins would have felt upset about the
Indian chief test pattern that was on the screen late nights and early morn.

Would that be something called "The Big Orange" or something like that? Roughly the same size (height/width) as an issue of ESPN the Magazine? Because when I was in junior high/high school up in Vermont, I used to get that and pin all of the front pages to the walls of my bedroom.

I recall being the remote control for my older brother when we git home from school. I'd sit on the floor near the TV and turn the dial as he directed. There where two knobs. Like 1-13 +uhf and the the second was the uhf knob which had higher double digit numbers although only acouple worked. I believe there were remotes at that time but our family didn't have a lot of money growing so we didn't have one yet.

I saw the Dumont network. It was one of the first. And I remember their test pattern.

Regarding your Redskins comment, and people getting upset with it, I once heard Abbie Hoffman say at a talk that, following the logic of having a team called the Redskins, we should have teams like the New York Kikes, Miami Spics, San Francisco Wops, and the Chicago Ni**ers.

Yes I am also very pleased with the technological advancements

Look how far we've come in the last 60 years. Imagine where we'd be if that UFO hadn't crashed in Roswell, or if Steve Jobs hadn't rescued the platform for the Macintosh and the mouse from Xerox, or if Bill Gates hadn't reverse engineered Apple's technology? ;)

Jesus whats going on in here
