Class of 2026 WR Calvin Russell (FL) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (7/5/25)

Semi-serious question. You all have been on this board way longer than me. Is Calvin's recruitment the most mysterious one ever, or at least in recent memory? I've covered SU recruiting for 10 years; never seen anything like it.
Who wants to tell the story of the infamous mystery recruit on the basketball side?

Richmond has been very quiet. All I know is if we’re offering $2M and Mich is double that… pure speculation… just a hypothetical… it’s gonna be hard to pass that up.

And I will officially be done with CFB. The P2 schools literally just buy their rosters.

Ya’ll really need assurances from him every day.Can things change in recruiting fast, yes. But just because he isn’t posting that he is feeling more confident every day of the week doesn’t mean anything has changed yet.

The only thing mysterious about this is that Syracuse didn't get an official visit, hasn't been mentioned in weeks and people are still clinging to hope.

Him picking Syracuse at this stage would be a massive shocker.

Shocks are good folks. Let’s enjoy Saturday. I like our chances.

Most interesting I have seen, no analyst has a firm grip which makes all the twitter guessing fun to watch.
I think there is one of two things going on here - Calvin is coming here and has known that for some time and is building up buzz for his announcement to “shock the world”, or he’s playing to the highest bidder. Only thing that makes sense to me with how coy this recruitment has been for such a high profile recruit.

Makes total sense … it’s different I feel then so many other older recruiting stories our program has because of the proliferation of recruiting into mass social media. Coverage for this stuff is light years ahead of where it was a decade ago.

Per Wiltfong “Wiltfong: I think it’s coming down to Syracuse and Michigan and it’s still up in the air. A source close to Russell says a final decision won’t be made till the night before. Florida State, LSU, Miami and others are also swinging late but I’d give the slight edge to Fran Brown and the Orange as he still dots i’s and crosses t’s. The basketball staffs in Ann Arbor, up at Syracuse and at FSU are also heavily involved”

No Way Omg GIF by Laff

Ishaq Williams, Nduka Onyeali, David Perkins, David Oku and Robert Washington were the weirdest/most disappointing recruitments that I can recall from last 25 years. Interestingly, none of these guys amounted to much of anything on the football field.
Didn't McF&%it make us think we were getting Alvin Kamara for a hot second?

Let’s hope HCFB can hang on and prevail if Wiltfong is correct!

No freshman--I don't care who he is,--is worth $4 million. I highly doubt that is the offer. College football is littered with 5 stars that flame out every single year. Even $2 million is a foolish amount of money for a freshman receiver

Agree. I’ve heard the numbers and nowhere close. With revenue sharing now, schools have to be more judicious unless a deal will pass the clearinghouse. Have to imagine freshmen won’t get approved for massive deals now.

The first recruitment I followed was Sam Perkins. A friend and I were driving back from the Hobart-Su lacrosse game in Geneva when we heard he chose North Carolina. If I remember right we also lost to Hobart that day.

Yeah I think a few very high end QBs might be able to get through here or there but otherwise no
