Class of 2026 WR Calvin Russell (FL) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (7/5/25)

I mean, all we hear is how every year players can come and go to the next biggest offer. I feel like we'd start hearing more about legally enforceable contracts if they existed

I think that you need to remember that there is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes.

Multi-year contracts definitely are being used...

Heres an example to one right here...https://www.si.com/college/nil/nil-news/8-million-college-football-qb-already-turning-heads-new-program-darian-mensah

Mensah has a two year deal....

I get it, but if they are so common why do we always seem to fear our guys being poached?

Because all the rules, regulations and guidelines surrounding revenue-sharing and third-party NIL are a bit in flux due to legal battles, the whole debate as to whether athletes will ever be deemed employees (collective bargaining), etc. Plus, the publicly available information on these deals isn't all that robust or reliable...

Are we (Syracuse football etc) or is it just the fans?

Coach Fran doesnt seem to worried. He knows what deals he has and does not have in place.

And with that, I will also say there is no chance Russell will be going to Miami, despite how many times he visits there.

Just because one pays $$ To attend a game, in the their hometown and cheer on peers/friends, does not mean they think they are a fit for that program or that HC.

We'll see. I hope you are right. I think I just have PTSD

Ok -- here is a question related to Russell. Assumming that he ends up here, given that he's enrolling early, which also means he'd play in the spring.

Would he step right into the role vacated by the graduating JRS? The big bodied reciever on the outside, with Gill / Cook returning?

We have options there. You’ll have Russell and Ross. Both very good options

He might.

But that spot could go to Ross.

I'm really interested in seeing Ross the rest of the way.

Either way, Cook/Gill/Ross/Russell is a legit quartet.

And that's not even accounting for Hornsy/Russell/Johnson etc. Or that the other incoming WRs look really good too.

Yeah I think Calvin is in the mix for sure but i'd bet he splits time with Hornsby and Ross.
