Class of 2026 WR E'Shawn Sutton (FL) Flipped to CMU

And you guys wonder why I call DART a marketing slogan and nothing more.

All rationalizations aside ("it's the way it is!", "business!", "players flip too!") if Fran wants to play the game this way (which is his right) then don't preach that DART differentiates the SU program as being "family", or more attentive to a player's future, or whatever.

Fran will toss someone aside if that's in his best interest. Period.

And despite the timing, it's always better to be honest with a kid that you don't think will work out at this level. The hard truth gives hijm time to re-engage with another school, saves him and SU from the ordeal of no playing time/portaling/taking up a spot that should go to a more qualified player, etc.
True. If it was just a this years numbers thing and we needed someone who could play right away I would think we still take Sutton and hope he can contribute later. And considering we just took Terrance Johnson yesterday...welp. It had to be more of a they changed their mind and decided they don't think he was quite good enough to play and they second guessed taking him. Or maybe he was insurance incase we lost Hughes and when we found out he was sticking with us and signing on Dec 3 we decided to let him know? Sucks that is the case for him but its probably better he finds out in November so he can find another landing spot, which he did. I'm sure it limited his options which sucks for him as the early signing period started a couple weeks later in December.

He decommitted Nov 23 and we hired Kheres as DC on Dec 6. Wonder if Kheres was in the fold earlier and he had input on taking him?

Or it could be that we had a large group of experienced receivers leave via the portal, and they wanted a group of more experienced players to replace them [we in fact brought in several portal transfers and a JUCO to help fill that gap], versus high school players.

Interesting that Sutton signed with CMU as a safety, not a WR.

Nowhere in DART is there an for family, but yes he wants a family atmosphere and he will look out for his players. The staff obviously changed their mind on if he was a take or not for some reason. The kids is still getting a scholly somewhere. Commits decommit from SU and all colleges ALL THE TIME if a better opportunity comes along. Its not really a Fran thing. This is the business set-up now unfortunately.

Problem is we bitch about de-commits when clearly their is no loyalty either direction

I said he has the right to do whatever he wants in regards to recruits. I just don't need to hear the huckleberry happy talk about DART anymore from people. It's a slogan, just like "Win the Day" and "Row the Boat" and "Keep Chopping".

I guess my reaction is, so what?

College football has turned into the NFL. Out-and-out free agency, and players departing every single year for a bag. The old way of thinking about players -- with them coming, staying for multiple years, developing over time -- isn't the current reality anymore.

99% of what Fran does embodies DART. Coaches say stuff, his involvement in the community is walking the talk. It isn't just lip service, unlike most other slogans.

The 'so what' is largely directed at people who think DART is some kind of unique differentiator that makes SU "better" than other programs.

I read constant complaints about the system, decommits, and the unfairness of it all. But IMHO, dumping a kid who's been committed to you for 8 months is garbage. I agree that it's how everyone else acts in this cesspool of a sport. I agree 100% that this is pro sports.

I'm not sure I agree about the 99% part. Not standing up to your OC doesn't seem "accountable" to me. Letting your WR coach bully his players to the point you had to fire him doesn't seem very DART to me.

I like Fran. I really do. I'm just a bit exhausted by the mythologizing.

Obviously you have a different idea of what DART is then some, and that's OK. In the current state of college you can only accept the term as applying to your current players and those who graduate from Syracuse. Any other players are just hired guns passing threw.

Being a "man of my word" and "say what I mean, mean what I say" are trademarks I was taught that demonstrate what it means to be "Accountable". Do you think offering a kid a scholarship, only to then 8+ months later say "never mind" meets that standard of accountability?

So yes, DART is nothing more than a marketing term; no different than the Duke "Brotherhood". You're in the "brotherhood" until they don't want you anymore.

College football is definitely cutthroat, but the over generalizations like "this happens all the time" or "this is just the way it is" to somehow validate a kid getting a scholarship pulled is messed up at it's core.

I'm sure there's been a kid who thought he was getting a full ride to Syracuse and thought his future was set. It's not even about football necessarily, it could be any number of things: a free college education at school he really wants to go to, access to the Newhouse school, proximity to home, etc. Then months down the road, he gets it all pulled away. Life isn't always fair, but I do feel for those kids getting screwed in this cutthroat environment of college sports.

it's nothing more than a job anymore and people lose their jobs all the time. Kids want to be paid like adults/professionals then they get treated as such. Sure - it kind of sucks but life sucks most of the time.

This guy didn't have a job. He had a promise from the HC of SU. And that promise was broken by the HC of SU.

Look, we all acknowledge that this is the way the game is played. But rationalizing it is a bad look. Just admit that it's crummy.

It’s never pretty to see the sausage being made. If we all visited a slaughter house most of us would prob stop eating meat.

It sucks for this kid and I feel bad for him but I agree with Fran this scholarship is better used on a portal player.
