WR Preview (Post-Standard)

I think the real wild card is one of the “other” TEs. If we can finally get one of them to step up and be a legitimate receiving threat, Beck has the opportunity to move Gadsden around ever more creating even greater mismatches.
What’s up with the TE from Rochester? He’s a Junior by now I think. Wasn’t he supposed to be decent? But, we haven’t really heard from him much. Can Mang do anything, like, anything at all? The new Albany kid is big, but was hurt his senior year in HS.

This is one of these perplexing things about Dino and SU. Other programs are able to find serviceable TEs. SU? Not so much.

I think you're talking about Mahar.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's a guy we see out there a bit this season.

He had 13 catches in 11 games prior to BC and The Bowl game which includes 4 games with 1 catch and two with zero. Has to be way more consistent if he's gonna be a starter.

I’ve been saying this for awhile. The guy has all the potential and size. But the he’s been built up as a guy who’s improved over the season and will be better next year. It’s just not accurate if you look at the numbers. Last year was his chance to shine. The team needed a dependable 2nd WR. Gadsden rightfully got a lot of the D’s attention especially with Tucker not playing to potential teams weren’t as scared of him and loading the box. Last year was the year he should have broke out and had all the opportunities to but didn’t.

Will I be surprised if he becomes an important piece this year, absolutely not. I’ve been saying for awhile he has it all to do it. Will he though….. who knows.

I think LeQuint is going to be just as important in the passing game as anyone after Gadsden. I’ve hitched my whatever to him since the end of last year. He’s one of our best WR’s and route runners, I think Beck is going to feature him a lot out of the backfield. Then will have to get more creative when teams realize they have to stop that.

I'm very comfortable with this group. But what really excites me is the pairing of Allen with another RB whether its Price or one of the freshman. Being able to turn Allen into a WR and still have a RB back there just gives so much flexibility to formations and play calling. I think this really strengthens the WR room. If Jones stays healthy I think he's got #1 WR ability.

If the tight end from Albany CBA can run and catch at all he could be a great addition. Allen is a good receiver he cannot be wasted as a blocker on passing plays. One of the true tight ends need to be able to pass block and be a threat to slip out of it. Mang and Hoeh were horrendous last year. If the tight end play that bad this season the position needs to be removed from the offense.
Back to receivers, is there someone who can make plays? I want to believe in Adams. I think Beck is going to find a way to stretch the field with him.

I recall Jones being looked at as the best receiver coming out of last year's camp. Who knows what kind of year he could have had? Makes me feel good about our 1 and 2 wr spots this year. If we get that 3rd guy to be a consistent threat this offense will be much more explosive in both the passing, and running attack.
