WSJ on NFL quarterback "crisis"

Plenty of college teams still run pro offenses. Florida State, USC, Texas, now Michigan. College QBs are being developed into pro QBs. The problem is pro teams are now rushing these rookies to play right away. Rookie QBs should be developed and not thrown into starting week 1.

This is about understanding basic coverages and formations, though. Look at the comments by Petty, even he stated they didn't work on coverages because that's not necessary in Baylor's offensive scheme.

Not just the injuries. IMO if you take a QB with the #1 overall pick he should be a difference maker. You should expect that guy to be a future pro bowler. I never though of Bradford as that type of guy. If he was taken 20th overall he would be a good pick. IMO you don't spend a top 10 pick on a decent player. Of the Top 7 picks in that draft he is the only guy who hasn't made a pro bowl. He was healthy in 2012 and IMO didn't show Top 10 talent.

You're not counting this year, then? ;)

i think that's a credit to baylor's offensive scheme. there's not as much to do reading a defense because their wide splits makes it really hard for a defense to disguise anything

people love to talk about NFL defenders being so fast but that's why offenses should spread them out and make defenders declare their intentions (or cover more ground when they try to disguise them)

nfl qbs have the arms strength to get the ball wide in a hurry against fast defenders

nfl teams have practice squads and unlimited practice time to get defenses prepared where colleges who run outlier offenses have defenses that aren't as familiar with the average offense. all the more reason for the NFL to use it

I agree with often, but why early?

What multi-position objective evaluation system values Johnny Manziel as a top 5 pick? There is a weird FOMO at play when it comes to QBs and GMs.

This is assuming all teams are using the correct strategy of finding a good QB asap. For as great as players at other positions can be, their overall value peaks at maybe an average QB.
