WVU officially out of BE for 2012-13 season

WVU is out of the BE this year? Ill believe it when Marinatto tells me.

The big news is that Pitt and Syracuse have officially abandoned any effort to play in the ACC in 2012.

Would you prefer to play Rutgers in Yankee Stadium or play Boise State in Idaho? I am hoping for a door #3 option. Maybe a game at the Linc against Temple?

Could be your best chance to see the beautiful state of Idaho.

OK, lets be honest with this. We'll have a young, rebuilding team going into 2013. Our stated goal is a bowl game...preferably away from Yankee Stadium this time.

Take the labels off the helmets and make an unbiased decision. If you had to choose a replacement team, would you want to travel west and play the perennial powerhouse that is Boise St (boy that sounds weird)...Or would you prefer to play a mediocre Rutgers team that just lost its entire coaching staff and that you've beaten 2 out of the last 3 years?

Playing Rutgers could be a gimme 2 wins (with one being played in Yankee Stadium). We'd beat up on Ruttie in front of fans, alumni and recruits.

Playing Boise, we'd get beat on blue turf...

We need to find two FBS baby-seals to club.

Glad we're playing one more year in the BE. You know me.

Yeah, but that's hoops board material.

Football, without WVU officially, it's a nightmare. This will blow the doors off of 2004 for the least interesting conference schedule we ever play.

SU and Pitt also "likely out" after 2013
This makes me angry on many levels. The ACC may have wanted Pitt and SU, but WV has the better athletics department.

We will not be playing Rutgers a second time. The article was total crap.

Also saw that the money situation at WVU is a bit shaky. WVU lost $1.4 mil last year. Wonder what % of that is in ticket sales for their BCS game, but it's crazy what some schools can afford

True, Chip. It's much more of a hoops thing with me...and others, I believe. But I'll still miss playing Rutgers and UConn in football. Much more of a regional feel.

I grew up with the Orangemen playing BC and Maryland and Pitt (and Penn State and WVU). I won't miss Rutgers and UCONN much at all.

I'm comfortable with this. This was and is the right thing to do. WVU has now burned bridges with everyone, including hopefully SU and Pitt. There was a right way to approach this situation and WVU and Luck didn't take that approach.

I look forward to them getting knocked down to reality and off the false pedestal they claimed as Big East champions the last few years.

Me too and if PSU (dream I know) went to the ACC it be like the good old days except for WV but since we're playing them (PSU) OOC it does look old school.

can you imagine a worse case scenario-

su goes undefeated but gets left out of the title game for a 1 loss sec team because we played the girls twice-

we end up getting screwed over because of wv-those hillbilly bastards

You must be high to think SU will even approach going undefeated next year.

The decision not to push it is financial and in the interest of relationship management. I don't think SU or Pitt are interested in needlessly burning bridges. One more season in the BE isn't going to hurt anybody, and if that's what it takes to assist the BE in building a bridge whatever the league is going forward, it's the price of getting out, and likely leads to an exit fee much less than the $20M WVU is reasonsible for.

WVU did what they had to because they had a small window to escape. If they didn't meet the B12's need date, they would move on to the next guy. SU and Pitt aren't under that pressure. Each party is doing what they need to do.

There hasn't been confirmation yet that Boise St. is joining the Big East for 2012 football season. I don't care if Boise wins, I need confirmation of that to take the Big East out of the laughing stock category nationally for even thinking about having schools play each other twice in one year.

I agree with you. I think I would rather play Rutgers - to avoid the travel out west and a great team for now.

But, the notion that the Knights would present a "gimme" game is way off base in my opinion.

And with all due respect - not personal - it's that kind of analysis that prompts anger and frustration when the Orange loses those kind of "gimme" games.

That's when you start to read about "epic" losses, etc.

The fact is that Rutgers will be a very tough opponent next year - they have their entire defense back and will have a lot of experience at the QB position.

It will not be a gimme.

True.

I can live with 2012, but would be very frustrated with 2013.

Out of those two, I'll take Yankee Stadium. We'll get a chance to beat RU twice before we leave and it's not all the way out to Idaho. We should see a good turn out of Orange faithful. Could be an option #3 but we'll see.

Plus, we get some of WVU's buyout money and the easiest way to get to the BCS game. Not saying we are going to get there, but our chances are much better than we would have if we went ACC this year.
