WVU officially out of BE for 2012-13 season

can you imagine a worse case scenario-

su goes undefeated but gets left out of the title game for a 1 loss sec team because we played the girls twice-

we end up getting screwed over because of wv-those hillbilly bastards

I'll take your scenario for next year. Count me in.

True, Chip. It's much more of a hoops thing with me...and others, I believe. But I'll still miss playing Rutgers and UConn in football. Much more of a regional feel.

I get the hoops stuff, but on the football side I can't fathom preferring to play Rutgers, and particularly UConn, over BC and Maryland. I mean we've been playing UConn for 8 years, while we've played BC 46 times and Maryland 34 times. Rutgers is at 42, so I get that it's a long time series, but we're at 67 with Pitt.

But anyway... I can live with one more year in the BE. Although the conference schedule is utterly craptastic, we do have a strong OOC slate. Hopefully we fill the remaining 2 spots with easy wins.

Well since we are likely stuck for FB, I really hope that we are negotiating to have the Spring sports play in the ACC next year. There is no reason why the BBall team has to stay behind. Or the Lax team for that matter. The FB team leaving would hurt the BE as they wouldn't have enough teams. But the BBall team leaving would still leave the BE with 13 teams.

Contracts run from July 1 to June 30. We're stuck in the BE for one more academic year.

Got the inside scoop?

There's no scoop necessary. Everyone knows that the B12's media contracts could be dinged if they didn't have 10 teams in 2012-13. There was no chance the B12 was going to let that happen, hence why they're kicking in almost half of WVU's exit fee.

So there wasn't a condition, but there was a "condition".

West Virginia's offer was never conditioned on 2012:
That was the public statement last year. The BigXII just didn't want to look like an evil poacher.

I agree with you. I think I would rather play Rutgers - to avoid the travel out west and a great team for now.

Not a great team without Kellen Moore. If they are in the BE next year they lose at least 3 games.

I agree it, I will go out to Bose, once in a lifetime type deal as well, when is the next time we will play them in Boise-- probably never.

Playing Rutgers twice sounds about as boring as it gets..

Boise was very good before Kellen and will be very good after Kellen.

I don't feel adamant either way, though I have always thought the a home and home series with one opponent per year would be fun.

How many BE games do you think they would lose this year?

I'm actually hoping for Boise. Day trip for me, up and back on Southwest.

I haven't studied next year at all.

But my impression is that Boise State is re-loading. My impression is that Kellen Moore was a very good college QB who played well within a system and around very good players.

If you are asking me whether I think Boise could beat Pitt, SU, Rutgers, USF, UConn, Cincy, and Louisville next year - whether I would bet on Boise in those games - my answer would be yes.

And I wouldn't have much hesitance picking Boise in each game.

But, the notion that the Knights would present a "gimme" game is way off base in my opinion.

And with all due respect - not personal - it's that kind of analysis that prompts anger and frustration when the Orange loses those kind of "gimme" games.

That's when you start to read about "epic" losses, etc.

The fact is that Rutgers will be a very tough opponent next year - they have their entire defense back and will have a lot of experience at the QB position.

It will not be a gimme.
I agree. With WVU leaving, UL and RU are going to be co-favorites to win the BE in 2012 (this assumes of course that Boise State does not join early). RU's chances of pulling this off and winning the conference would really be helped if they are able to trade an away game at WVU for a game at Yankee Stadium against Syracuse. This is their last real chance to play in and get humiliated in a BCS bowl game. Blocking Boise and playing the projected last place team twice is really important for Rutgers, which is why they want to force the BE to completely redo the schedule so they can play Boise at home if the Blue Potato Horses (or whatever they are called) do indeed join the BE in 2012.

Their huge losses on the coaching staff are the other big problem to overcome. That one might be a more daunting one to deal with. Regardless, they should have the makings at least for a servicable offense and a good defense, and their special teams shouldn't completely collapse over the span of a single year.

Considering we have outperformed them on the recruiting trail the last two years, even when they were top 5 ranked, i don't necessarily buy that they are reloading...

I think there's a very good chance to beat them if we play next year.

Agree completely with the first paragraph.

As for scheduling, the philosophy seems to be go big time or stay at home.

Playing Rutgers is not acceptable.

makes me want to burn some living room furniture out in my front yard in tribute -
lucky bastards pulled the great escape
while we are stuck with col klink and Sgt shultz -unable to escape ourselves-

So West Virginia's home conference schedule went from...

Syracuse
Rutgers
Cincinnati
South Florida

...to...

Baylor
Kansas State
TCU
Oklahoma
Kansas

Not a bad upgrade.

This year's Big East BCS team will be the least vetted team in BCS conf history.
