Yale Pregame Articles & Videos [NCAA 1st Rd]

Was wondering if they would use Bomberry on Reeves because of his size.

He's to good of a dodger, would be difficult matchup for Bomberry despite his quickness. Bomberry will surely draw Gaudet as he has almost zero dodging ability and is an around the crease guy.

Reeves will be hard to stop but if Bomberry can shut down Gaudet and Helmer/ Fusco can limit Scott we should have a very good shot at winning by more than one goal. Scott is a dangerous player he can dodge and is a good outside shooter. He will have Fusco/Helmer combo on him all night.

Yale at Syracuse, Sunday 7:30pm on ESPNU
Orange are sitting on a time bomb, winners of a staggering eight one-goal games. They know how to win but haven't been dominant. Yale captured another Ivy League title with razor thin wins over Penn and Brown.

Player to watch for Yale: Ben Reeves is the catalyst for the Bulldogs. The lean lefty glides to the goal and is equally effective as a scorer or set-up man. Reeves is a Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology major who has done extensive cancer research.

Player to watch for Syracuse: The midfield tandem Sergio Salcido and Nick Mariano is the nations best. Salcido is from Winter Park, Fla., and has X-ray vision. Mariano is a UMass transfer who has a whippy release that makes goalies turn and rake.

Pre-game speech: Veteran coach John Desko has made shrewd moves all season and he may be inclined to remind his team to make the WE decisions before the ME decisions. The Orange must stay true to their team first identity.

What can make the difference? Yale can score but its defense has often been exposed. The face-off match-up between Yale’s Connor Mackie and SU’s Ben Williams will dictate flow. Syracuse, favored by two goals, will be on guard, learning from prior home playoff defeats to Army and Bryant.

Chris Cotter and Paul Carcaterra cover the first round finale on ESPNU. Go easy on the Dome dogs Carc.

I wouldn't be surprised if that shutoff Gaudet off with a SSDM
