Not sure if this should get its own thread. Not really a surprise given the TD Irelan news. Question is did the seniors leave school to maintain their eligibility or are their careers over? Assuming it’s too late to transfer for most.

Wow. Clock is ticking on their eligibility. Not enrolling is curious ?? What a shame for these kids, left completely in the lurch unless they can hook on this late with (any) team - D1, 2 or 3. Shay must be looking for a cliff.

I believe anyone who is a Sr who got the extra year due top COVID last year, their careers are effectively over. The IVY cancelling the season doesn't give them an extra year only the NCAA can grant that. If Cornell cancels it would be the same for Teat and company. I also believe you are correct about it being to late to transfer. Even Ierlan isn't a lock to play this year, I believe the one article said if everything went right he was looking at game 8 or 9 for Denver, before he was finally eligible.

This year will not feel complete with two top teams (Cornell and Yale) and at least a couple potential dark horses in Penn and Princeton all not playing. There is no way the rest of the Ivy league is playing and Yale is the only one sitting out. They are all gone. So sad. Poor Jeff Teat.

Should have read the actual article before posting -

"With an enrollment deadline approaching and a lack of certainty around whether university guidelines would allow the team to practice — much less travel, host teams and play games — multiple players and parents of players on the team tell Inside Lacrosse that about 40 members of Yale’s men’s lacrosse team decided not to enroll for this semester, leaving about eight players enrolled.

As a result, it is expected that Yale will forgo the 2021 season."

So, it looks like players will maintain their eligibility but it doesn't seem fair that they have to dis-enroll from school in order to do so. Just a frustrating situation all around.

Your correct, un-enrolling for a semester is the Ivy leagues roundabout way of red-shirting. So for Yale that would allow them to bring back everyone as the only 5th year guy they had was TD who was only there because of a loophole in when he transferred. This would hurt a team like Cornell more as Teat and a few others came back on a 5th year and withdrawing won't help them.

Love to hear from one of the Ivy seniors something like this - I am disappointed about missing my last season, but I am sure the Ivy League did the right thing. Because they did.

Possible that a few more Yale srs finagle to get a three month vacation out West and further strengthen the Denver Bulldogs

Maybe Teat , Piatelli , Donville and Telesco would enjoy taking class FST 422 at Cuse

8. FST 422: Wine and Beer Appreciation

beer
A class well suited for the upperclassmen who want to add a fun, unique elective to their courses of study. Being 21 or over is a requirement on the first day of class. Very little work is involved in this one, and even so, work is put towards studying how to judge the tastes of beer or wine.

Believe it would be to late for them to transfer to most schools. With SU starting late there maybe a very short window but I dont see it happening.

I thought Cornell would have the best chance of playing, but sounds like they are in a similar position as Yale. Wonder where this leaves Teat? Perhaps he just goes pro, he's a major indoor prospect.

Any ideas which schools Chris could be referencing?

So NY High schools are gonna play but the Ivies wont?

not surprising. and considering the way the IVY schools are testing going into better weather its probably an over reach.

Breaking: Ivy League presidents will allow current senior athletes to participate in athletics as full-time grad students at their current university next year in a break with League policies. The change is a result of Covid-19, which canceled a full year of sports. Story to come

Unfortunately that wont help guys like Teat and others who are playing on their 5th year and were Seniors last year. It will help guys who are true seniors this year though across the IVY league.

Dumb decisions made by the smartest league. They likely knew all year they were not going to play and should have made the call earlier. At the very least at the start of the semester.
