Yasin Willis transferring to Kansas

I’m just talking about the hurdle against Duke. That three-touchdown monster game versus Tennessee was incredible. He also played very well against Clemson. If the offensive line had been better, he would be one of the top running backs returning in college football next year.
442 yards
4.3 per carry
4 Td

I get he had a good game against Tenn... so Im not looking to argue. Im on to next year. :)

Besides he never hit the right hole.

at 235 pounds never really moved the pile never kept his legs moving and never saw obvious un frequent holes. Add to that concrete hands.
Beautiful athlete. Big, strong and fast but I agree, it never really showed up in games. His first spring game he looked like an All-American but he really struggled. Maybe he wasn't quick enough or didn't have the vision. I can see why he was so heavily recruited. I don't like losing him or all of the top recruits from Coach Fran's first class but we should be able to find someone who may not look as impressive physically but can be more productive. He should have been dragging guys an extra 2-3 yards and he couldn't even be counted on for 3rd and 1s.

With the end of college football of old because of the portal’s/Nil impact each year, doesn’t it make sense to have coordinators that adapt to the team’s current strengths instead of keeping to their systems?

I get my question is not really about Yasin entering the portal but some of the above comments mention of him not fitting the system. He obviously has talent.

This assumes it’s not about getting ‘a bag’ from somewhere else
This is the part that concerns me.

It is a big loss, it’s stupid to not to see that. Yasin has all the potential in the world to be an All American (yes I think that highly of his potential) running back as long as he stays healthy, plays smart, and has good blocking. For us, it’s also an opportunity for a big gain in the portal.
Uhhhhh

greatness? that's a bit far. If and only if he has a line that can eliminate his need to see holes in the line then i agree. other than that, a guy in a wheelchair could do better reading the line. IMO
This seems like an exaggeration but it was pretty mind blowing how someone his size would get continuously stuffed at the line.

Had one good game really against Tennessee. Thought he would be great this year but he was very underwhelming. Replaceable, see ya later.
Yeah multiple things can be true:

1. He is talented but replaceable
2. Our OL was horrible
3. Our passing offense the last 8 games was historically bad, making the job of a running back very tough

Better OL play will go a long way towards a better run game. Fran will bring in a good RB to start, the bigger things are getting the pass game back and fixing the OL

That’s your opinion, and I respect it. Personally, I think he flashed some elite traits — especially with the way he made his cuts once the offensive line opened things up. That huddle moment in the Duke game stood out, and his play against Clemson spoke for itself. It’s wild how people forget how much of a monster he was versus Tennessee. I really hope Fran can convince him not to enter the portal.

He definitely had elite cuts right into his blockers. That’s what I remember most.

Did he not take the next step or did the line suck? The way people are talking it sure seems like we should’ve always known Yasmin wasn’t good. I just think fans are quick to dismiss losses

We’ll see based on where he goes in the portal and how well he does.

The sad part is our Offensive line did open up some lanes. Nixon and Tylik had some big runs because of those holes. My seats are in the end zone and the amount of times I saw Yasin just run straight into our Olineman, instead of side stepping and running through the hole that was right next to him was maddening. RBs are replaceable.
I think Willis is not a great pass catcher. I think our offensive scheme needs the RB to be a reliable outlet for the QB.

Agree with all of that. I don’t get the Willis hype though. He’s a big running back sure. Definitely would have had a better year with Steve, that’s unquestionable. Still believe he is replaceable. Prefer a LQA type in this offense. Someone who can catch out of the back field and has a little more burst is what this offensive scheme needs. No disrespect to Willis, but he’s not suited for our offense.
