You can officially scratch Gross for the A.D. list after this comment

ND may want more NY exposure. Many Catholics to draw student population from within the State. That said, ND probably has a little say in who will get the extra games each rotation. I can see BC (largely Catholic region) and Pitt (historical purposes) getting selected a little more often than other schools, if ND has a say in the matter. If not, this exercise is moot.
ND did have no control over those extra games. The deal is ND gives the ACC 5 dates and the ACC fills them in.
I agree ND would probably prefer Pitt and BC if they had their choice.
I just don't expect Syracuse to get a 3rd home game until everyone else gets that.
The ACC already did SU a solid by giving them a home game this rotation. That deal by Gross was all about the money and once we joined the ACC should have been cancelled.
If we can get teams to play neutral site games at MetLife we should do it to throw bones to NYC area fans but we should never move games from the Dome to MetLife unless the dome is being renovated.

remind me who called this shot and who said it would never happen??

1-1-1 so we are there 1x every 3 years or so is perfect.

We had a 2 in 14 chance of being one of the two teams to play 3 ND home games.
Congrats you got that. We wasted 2 other potential home games and have turned them into road/neutral games at MetLife.
This ND deal was not 1-1-1 it has luckily turned into a 1-2-2 deal by the graces of the ACC offices.
If we can get 1-1-1 deals or just neutral site one off games then schedule a MetLife game whenever. Just don't play Syracuse home games there that is my Point and will remain forever.

It's been a while since these Met Life games were established, so I don't really recall. Are they replacing home games, or are they set up as neutral site games? I know that the ND series is skewed to ND hosting SU more than vice versa, but were they even willing to do a true home and home with SU any more? I'm not sure if UW and PSU were one offs or not.

When Gross got here, he set up a 4 game series with Notre Dame (2 games at Met Life in 2014 and 2016, 2 games at South Bend in 2015 and 2017). Allegedly ND wouldn't come to Syracuse unless we paid them more $$$ than we could afford. The best Crouthamel was able to do was a 1-2 arrangement (Syracuse in 2003, South Bend in 2005 and 2008).

Years later, SU agreed to join the ACC, and Notre Dame agreed to play 5 games a year against ACC opponents (which would require ND to play actual road games).

Since SU and ND couldn't back out of the contract with MetLife without incurring penalties, it was agreed to keep both MetLife games on the schedule. This was a win for SU (since we needed the guaranteed $$$ at the time), it was a win for ND (they get to play in front of their Subway Alumni), and it was a win for the ACC (NYC exposure). In exchange, the two games in South Bend were rescheduled to 2018 and 2025, and a game was added in Syracuse in 2022 to satisfy ND's ACC requirement.

Wisconsin was part of the Kickoff Classic series (one time neutral site game), and Penn State was a 1-1-1 deal. However, the home/road portion was cancelled, leaving behind just the neutral site game.

Xtreme outlined the facts accurately. Syracuse has played at Metlife in 2012, 2013, 2014, and will play there this year in 2016.
2012- was a Syracuse home game scheduled for the Dome moved to Metlife against Southern California.
2013- was a true neutral site game against Penn State.
2014- was a Syracuse scheduled home game against Notre Dame because ND wouldn't play us at the Dome and Gross took the money. Once ND moved to the ACC for 5 games this would by ACC-ND deal would have been at the Dome but SU had the contract with Metlife.
2016- same as 2014.

If the Metlife people were smart they would create a preseason bowl game like Atlanta has done with Chick-Fil-A game, Houston has done, Dallas has done, and created a Lambert Classic between 2 different Northeast school it would be smart.

Neutral site Metlife games are great. Syracuse home games at Metlife are what Midmajors do.

i can see both sides on the issue but Babers would be able to control this more if he makes a winner at SU.

What's our record so far in this Meadowlands series?

If we actually won any of these games people may be in more favor of them and the increased exposure they bring. We're the equivalent of the Brooklyn Brawler- a jobber that's a safe win for a high profile team. If we're going to get smoked by a blue blood football program I'd rather see it at the Dome than be told our home game is going to be 300 miles away and told to like it.
Agree 100%

Agree 100%. I don't mind playing at MetLife and I had a great time at the game against Penn State, but you just can't play your home games there. It's embarrassing.

I don't see how anyone could take issue with a 1-1-1 series or just a one off neutral site game there though.

So really the only Met Life game where a home game at the Dome was changed was the USC game. The PSU series was scratched after the neutral site game. Wisconsin is a neutral site game with no home or away game. The only way to play ND was to schedule an unequal home/away series with neutral games at Met Life. In the years SU plays ND at Met Life, SU plays 6 at home, 5 on the road and 1 at a neutral site. We'll just have to agree to disagree on how bad it is.

When you pay full price for season tickets for 5 home games because you have a neutral in NJ I can see it.

So don't schedule ND if you're gonna have to take an unbalanced series. We're not Central Michigan.

If the ACC is the one pushing us to take ND games then they should be standing up for a full ACC member and not giving preferential treatment to the half-ass member.

My counter to that thought would be don't play ND. F them. They don't value us as equals then no need to play them.

If we want to play at Metlife we can get a neutral site game there like Penn State did. Penn State treated us likes equals and Penn State isn't much different than Notre Dame.

I have no problems with Metlife games but like Dino Babers I want the SU home games at the Dome and not at Metlife 300 miles away.

I agree with most of what you say. Perhaps SU was too eager to try and schedule ND again in the first place. Maybe it's semantics, but I don't view Met Life games as home games. I view them as neutral site games. If we have 6 home games on the slate, and they outweigh the number of road games, I'm ok with it. If we had only 5 home games, or if the games were originally scheduled at the Dome and then moved, then I'd have more of an issue with it.

If West Virginia, Penn State, Rutgers want to play a neutral site game at Metlife in NYC opening weekend then do it. However, playing a road game and then our home game at Metlife is what Babers is talking about not wanting to do.

Gross needed the money because we were in the BE. I have talked with him about this and had a long email chain with him years ago on it.

If we have 6 home games and can get a neutral site game at Metlife do it. Metlife is not a homefield nor it will ever be.

The Penn State series was the template to follow. Penn State is a top 10 CFB brand.

Winning a few of those games might help perception as well.

no.

I had common sense. it had nothing to do with the #s.

there is nothing mid-majorish about a schedule of 6-5-1...1x every 3 or 4 years, when that 1 is in NYC.

playing someone at buffalo for the extra fannys in the seats...yeah that's mid-majorish and something Syracuse has not and shall never do.

and if this O is successful and is an absolute Fn joy to watch and behold...hate to break it to you, to the simple minded folk here AND to the Magic Rat Dino, but hes driving his sleek machine over the Jersey State Line.

playing Giants Stadium = smart.

Did he ever explain the travesty of the 2012 football season scheduling? That was one of the worst F-ups in scheduling I've seen.

We gifted away a home game with USC and were caught with our pants down by WVU moving to the Big 12 and not having any contingency plan like the other Big East teams were able to.

I live in Syracuse and do pay full price for tickets so I have some skin in the game. Lots of teams play neutral site games and I bet none of them end up with 5 home games in those years. Hell, if we aren't playing a neutral site game and only have 6 home games there is a huge issue.

Play PSU at MetLife, then 3 crap teams at home. There's seven home games.

You mean the part where we played them in a home game for them at Metlife and then they pulled out of the agreement to play a game at the Dome and another at State College?

Or do you like agreements where we play someone in an away game at Metlife for nothing except a money grab?

For the record, I don't blame Dr Gross for setting up some of the games at MetLife, given where SU was moneywise at the time. I agree with Coach Babers though. Now that we are in the ACC, it should never happen again, under any circumstance.

It wasn't just WVU that left. It was WVU and TCU. Two games just went <poof>. Temple filled one spot. Syracuse lost a home game and scrambled to get the game at Mizzou.

The rest of the Big East teams had the same dilemna and they seemed to manage.

Yeah well the SU HC doesn't agree with you and SU has pulled out of the metlife series. So enjoy your last game at MetLife this year.

he has as much as a say as I do.

and all 3 of us agree with his comments in regards to that particular situation.

Syracuse should not move 'home' games out of Syracuse.

but they can schedule and play 1-1-1

and yes, ill certainly be enjoying another game at Giants Stadium this year, 1 in the long standing and ongoing tradition of games of here, for sure...
