Your official 20th anniversary of 2006 BET thread

First Round: Syracuse vs. Cincinnati (final moments)

I forgot totally that Andy Kennedy was ever an interim coach at Cincinnati. I was looking for Huggins or Cronin. Getting old, I didn’t recall that Huggins was let go before that season and that Kennedy was the coach as an interim.

Also just a note but tomorrow March 8th is the 20th anniversary of the Cincinnati game. I noticed it when I looked up why Kennedy and not Huggins or Cronin wasn’t shown coaching.

Working in the Treasury department for my company, we had all sorts of screens in the (currency) trading room, normally for things like CNBC, Bloomberg feeds, etc. I convinced my boss to switch one of the redundant screens to the Cinci game. At the end, all the traders were screaming when Gerry hit that shot.
great story

I didn’t even realize you could watch games online in 2006.
You could. I think it was ESPN3 or something via browser only. I was at an internship watching on my laptop, which I shouldn’t have been doing. Gmac hit the runner vs Cincy and I let out as muffled a “OOOOOHHH!” as I could. Same thing the next day vs UConn. Still got the job in the end 😆

Luckily got some tix for Friday and Saturday night. I recall staying for the Nova/Pitt game after the GT thriller and believe that was the game Allan Ray’s eyeball got knocked loose.
Saturday I got to sit behind our 2nd half basket so got to relish in the game and celebration.

What a week. Would give anything just for a slice of that again.

I was in 6th grade, took Amtrak down with my dad. First time in NYC. Missed like the whole week of school, but had the benefit of my teacher being a former players wife. Needless to say I didn’t make up any of the schoolwork.

What an incredible time to be an SU fan.

That was the single most disgusting thing in the history of sports. Possibly the history of humanity.
I could be misremembering but I swear we could see it pop out where we were sitting. And we weren’t sitting that close.

I believe I saw Paul Harris celebrating with Devendorf & McNamara in a Brian Urlacher jersey at the end of the Pitt game.

I watched the first game at Tully’s in N Syracuse. Me being a superstitious nut job watched the next three games there to not mess up our mojo. The place was ape shyt crazy with fans going nuts.
