Your starting to see Fran and his assistants get exposed for a lack

What is this take. We won 10 last year, momentum on the recruiting trail. Kyle McCord leaves after being the top passing single season QB in SU and ACC history and Rickie is meh in Spring? OK let's scoop Angeli out of the portal. Check. Beef the staff by bringing in Josh Gattis and others to protect succession. Check. Peña leaves? OK scoop Johntay Cook. Check. Wait, a 5 star receiver from Miami? Scoop him too. Check.

So we're struggling right now. Check. Young staff. Check. They arent over their heads. They're being tested. And long term, I trust where we're headed.
Defense especially, our most talented players are freshmen.

4-8 or whatever is going to happen seems clinical to predict in the summer, but hurts awful to experience. And we're getting blown out. Last year is over.

Frans 10 wins are from McCord, Pena, & LeQuint.

Frans 4 wins are from Frans 4 opponents.

Going back to Ricky was the single handed most deflating decision I've seen a coach make.

Not running out the clock to end the half.

Constantly being a doink to reporters.

He needs to get 9 next year to regain the mojo.

No it wasn’t. More myth bs. Devito won FSU and UNC. The defense was really good situationally, and the run game was excellent.
Eric Dungey averaged 8 less ypg on the ground than Moe Neal. He scored almost 40% of our TDs including 15 rushing. Tommy beat an AWFUL FSU team. It was the fighting Eric Dungeys and friends.

He won ten games last year. You’ve been waiting to make this post since he was hired.
I was at the game. A couple of thoughts. D played great. Really played tuff with lots of energy.
The O was bad. Mostly was on Ricky’s inability to really play qb. The play calling was also really bad. They had two weeks to get Ricky in some sets to move the ball. Was a failure.
It was a horrible decision at the end of the half. We were down 3. Rickey and the O could not really move the ball. He could have run out the clock but decided to let Rickey throw which was a mistake.
The bigger issue I had was when he put carney in he really gave him no chance. First series was mostly designed runs. Second series more runs. Carney did try to make a couple throws. Pitt had every one in the box.
Not sure why he put Ricky back in the game. Crowd was not happy. Played Ricky the rest of the game.
People may say look Carney is not ready but it was hard to tell based on the play calling.
My opinion if we stick with Ricky we will not win another game this season. It may be the same with Carney but if we do not do something different the season is over. If Ricky continues to play I’m not sure how many fans will come to the last two games.

Angeli has a serious injury. He might not be the same next year or ever. Also if there are mass defections to the portal He might not even want to come back. I see people continue to say “we knew this was going to be a tough year “. But as the season plays out a lot of these teams look very pedestrian.

You can’t just think these losses don’t matter and we’re building for the future. Every year is going to be drastically different as long as these players have the option to leave. So “acquiring talent” just won’t be easy if your winning 3-4 games. Hell it wasn’t that easy after winning 10!!

You also need a serviceable backup QB. Not necessarily a stud. Just someone who can come in and manage the offense and win you some games. If you don’t have that you can’t be taken seriously as a program or a coaching staff

You kind of listed the reasons why it's so important to have Fran as the HC. The HC's we tend to get and can attract aren't going to be able to recruit players to come to SU in the way Fran has/will.

Solid post and I was going to write myself but I'll just do it here. We have a lot of young players, playing at a high level. We have what looks like a very manageable schedule next year. We have a chance to have a very solid season next year. Hopefully this is just a hiccup of a season which at SU, is just going to be the case unfortunately.

I still believe in what Fran wants to do here, he’s showed that if he has the right pieces we will be just fine but Collins can’t keep playing and he should of just pulled the trigger during an off week

I don’t care what the mental gymnastics are at qb.

Worst coaching job I’ve seen for Fran. This is a game Marrone would win. Need to figure out a way to game plan against a team we could beat.

Bc and UNC are must wins. Those teams are beyond bad
Are you implying St Dougie could use divine intervention and turn Collins into a decent qb? Because that’s the only way we win the game.

Marrone did the exact same thing against Louisville regarding a punt returner. The ONLY offense the Cards had that day was the punt returner and SU punted to him anyways multiple times and it burned them and they lost.

He wouldn’t have an incompetent qb throwing w 40 seconds left. Get to the half and figure out how to win the game in a 30 min rock fight

Pitt was banged up and had a qb who couldn’t do much w the pressure

It was all on Fran. That was a
Bad loss. Not saying we need to fire up firecoachp.com but great coaches find 6 wins in hard schedules and tough situations

Once you get into October rock fights are how you win games. I recall the 2010 season w Shafer and Marrone cooking gameplans to win a game.

Fran will be fine. Why? Because he is tireless worker and has the drive to get better and keep learning. He's a fighter and new on the job and of course will make mistakes but learning from them is the key and I have no doubt he will.
I hope so too. I’m confident he wants to be here and isn’t a lazy sad sack like Dino was.

Just saying when we finish 5-7 this was the one that got away.

didnt pitt have 3 timeouts?

The criticisms on Fran are getting crazy. Can anyone remember when the offense fell off prior to Fran, eventually the defense gave up. Watching how hard they played the last two weeks on defense with how poor the offense has been is a testament to Frans leadership. They'll get this figured out, unfortunately it'll be next year. I gotta imagine Fran will take this as a learning lesson and he'll make sure he has a bonafide backup QB, whether it's one of current backups maturing into the role or another portal guy. Fran saw the issue this year and got Angeli, unfortunately injuries happen, so that's a learning lesson to be prepared.

Marrone had has fair share of bad losses and bad game plans. People forget that he had a stretch in 2011 into 2012 where we lost 10 of 14 games. And every one of those games was quarterbacked by Ryan Nassib, who was infinitely better than the guys we're rolling out at QB now.

Absolutely. He did game plan w some strategy of keeping things close. I always appreciated the vanilla vs others who want perpetual air raid.

Marrone is and was a good coach. Small miracles in foxboro w the o line there. Just saying Fran needs a dash of meat head to complete his coaching brain
