What happened to Ross-Simmons? he was our best and most sure-handed receiver
Injured and he has no QB to throw him the ball. What happened to Ross-Simmons? he was our best and most sure-handed receiver
like his 330 pound samoan lineman ...Carson Beck protected the football, was able to get the ball to his playmakers
Great let’s get him on the freaking sideline to help out on defense again. Sheesh, this is an all hands on deck moment for this programPasqualoni was literally on the field with Freeney when he got his number retired. He got a standing ovation. Things are fine with him and SU.
Cheer up, man.Hope we get to the portal bowl again in April.
we actually need Don brown as d coordinator and maybe another sage x and o guy in the program. If pasqualoni wasn’t persona non grata he’d make a great advisor to the program.
Just need some adults
Thing is, Fran *did* recover from the QB mistake! He got Angeli after the spring game. That was a huge recovery and could have netted us a half-way decent season.
Again, the issue, which is hard to address admittedly, is that not only didn’t we have a good QB2, we didn’t have a good QB 3 or QB 4.
McCord was a once in a generation transfer QB so don't ever expect someone of his caliber to transfer to Syracuse as successful starting QBs from one of the top P2 schools are not readily available in the portal. But, you have to bring in a backup QB for next year.My opinion is you count on Angeli, recruit a young guy to redshirt and maybe become starter down the road, and hope for the best. Recruiting a “McCord” type so we can have either him or Angeli be second string seems unlikely.
I don’t think we can count on Angeli being ready to play from game #1 next season. We take injury recovery for granted, but it’s not unlikely, even when he is able to play, that he has a lot of rust. And he may not be nearly as mobile as he was pre-injury.I’m giving the benefit of the doubt to the poster I was responding to that there was some unaddressed mistake, but agree Fran did what he could. Missing on a guy like Collins is going to happen. Getting Angeli addressed that.
What more interesting is what happens in recruiting. If we go hard for an obvious starter to replace Angeli - which is what the anti-Fran crowd seems to want - I’m not sure how you keep Angeli. If you go for a legitimate backup, you’re hoping Angeli recovers which isn’t a given from his injury. Ideally you want as many potential starters as possible - but with NIL that’s bordering on impossible for everyone, especially at QB.

I think most people on here realize just how rare that was that we got a starting QB, who was highly successful, from one of the blue bloods of the sport, but I doubt the average SU football fan is aware. As you said, I don’t ever expect anything like that to happen again, and i’m still shocked it did. All the credit for that goes to Fran Brown. For the most part we’re going to have to hit on guys like Angelo, who lost a 1 v 1 starting job to an elite QB at a blue blood.McCord was a once in a generation transfer QB so don't ever expect someone of his caliber to transfer to Syracuse as successful starting QBs from one of the top P2 schools are not readily available in the portal. I’d prioritize OL coaching just the same. Dale sucks asz.The crusty old DC is right there, just hire him. Maybe it's end of season. But give Don Brown the DC job, and tell ERob that he's co-coordinator and DT coach. And if that's not for him, then he needs to find another school.
I don't know what to do about offense. You have a head coach that wants to run the ball, an OC that wants to throw the ball, and without the right QB we can't do either. But I'd probably prioritize most of the money on the line of scrimmage on both sides. It's always our weak spot. Always.
I think Paul has finally retired. It would be worth a shot to see if he's interested in a consultant/analyst role. At worst, he can say no. I believe his wife, Jill, is from Syracuse so perhaps there would be some interest in a homecoming.Pasqualoni was literally on the field with Freeney when he got his number retired. Hahaha. Agreed. I have this issue w the patriots being good and su stinking and vice versa since about 1997. Want this to endCheer up, man.
He’d be a good advisor type. I assume he’s not gonna bend over backwards w the way the university treated him when they fired him so grossly.I think Paul has finally retired.
