You are a GM in an all-SU-player league with 6 teams. Here's how the draft works: Each GM ranks the players available in a given round in order of preference before the draft begins. The player you choose in the first round will be the first player on your roster. The lottery, which determines the order in which each team picks, takes place after you submit your draft preferences.

Here are the only players that will be available in the first round:

CJ Fair http://orangehoops.org/CJFair.htm
Preston Shumpert http://orangehoops.org/PShumpert.htm
Eric Devendorf http://orangehoops.org/EDevendorf.htm
Todd Burgan http://orangehoops.org/TBurgan.htm
Etan Thomas http://orangehoops.org/EThomas.htm
Adrian Autry http://orangehoops.org/AAutry.htm

You get the player you have ranked the highest and who is still available when your pick comes. All players are performing at the level of their peak year at Syracuse. All aspects of a player count, including attitude and off-the-court issues.

Please fill in your pre-draft card with your desired players in order of preference:

#1: Etan

1. Thomas
2. Fair
3. Shumpert
4. Autry
5. Burgan
6. Devo

What with these choices? I assume this is the fantasy D-League version and Anthony, DC, Owens, Wallace, Sherm, Seikaly are in the Big Boy League

Yeah, I wondered where the heavy hitters were, but I just went with it.

It's either Red or Etan at the top - quality pg or superb interior defender.

1. Etan
2. Devendorf
3. Autry
4. Shumpert
5. Fair
6. Bergan

CJ needs to kick up his D, he's not the scorer that Shumpert was.

Love Devo.

I'd rank Etan 1 and Fair 2, but be happy trading out of the first and picking up Rick Jackson and Josh Pace as undrafted free agents

Love Devo.

I think Devo was a terrific offensive talent, but he really was a poor fit in basically any team concept. So many possessions where he simply decided he was going to shoot regardless of what happened. And defense? Um, not great

It's all about CJ. I tried to find a few players who were close to CJ's level, and I wanted the roster to be empty when the choice was made.

If you must have a backstory, let's say in this bizarro draft that each round makes 6 random players of similar quality available, but rounds are not ordered in quality. Next round might have six A+ players like Carmelo and DC, or it might have six B+ players like Kueth Duany and Josh Pace. Or, just go with it.

1. Etan
2. Autry
3. Shumpy
4. Fair
5. Burgan
6. Devo

Etan is a clear #1. Burgas and Devo fill the bottom two spots (in either order). The other three guys you could put in a hat to fill 2 through 4.

Would have to agree with OttoinGrotto, although the gap between Shumpert and Fair is not very wide.

Etan
Preston
CJ
Red
Devo
Todd

#1: Etan: Good: Defensive anchor, great shot blocker, high FG%. Bad: Not a dominant scorer.
#2: Autry: Good: Very good PG skills, solid rebounder, good height for zone. Bad: Good but not great scorer.
#3: CJ: Good: Dependable, makes few errors, solid defense, plays within team concept, "coach's dream". Bad: Rarely dominates. Decent but unspectacular rebounder.
#4: Shump: Very solid 3 point shooter, decent rebounder for a perimeter player. Bad: defense not great, volume shooter, doesn't excel at playing within team concept
#5: Bergen: Good all-around player, including defense and rebounding. Bad: Not a great shooter, off-the-court issues.
#6: Devo: Very good scorer and shooter, passionate teammate. Bad: Below average defense, off-the-court issues.

The right way to do this would be pick your own players to assemble an 8 team roster. My order of importance, based on likelihood of winning games (rather than say getting the most fantasy points).

1. Derrick Coleman
2. Dave Bing
3. Sherman Douglas
4. Carmelo Anthony
5. Rony Seikaly

6. Stevie Thompson
7. Billy Owens
8. Andy Rautins
