Zeed Haynes now in the portal

The university is prohibited from
saying anything because of federal rules. Fran seemed to stick with him until Zeed said he was retiring. He then changed his mind and entered the portal.
Some people keep arguing that these are kids. Players are now paid, have agents and enter contracts. They are adults and make their own decisions. He decided to leave. That was his choice.
I get it. Am I not allowed to feel bad for him though? I really do think he has gotten terrible advice throughout

You obviously don't get it because you keep coming back to it. Sure you can give him your sympathy but harping on the university is ridiculous and tired. It speaks volumes that no one has scooped him up so there are obviously things there keeping teams away that has nothing to do with Syracuse.

It seems to be something medical.

Here's the pattern of events.

1. He left Syracuse.
2. Brown, likely at the request or out of respect of Zeed, said nothing about why,
3. Haynes himself, likely as a result of guidance from his advisors, has said nothing about why,
4. He has faded into oblivion and no one has signed him.

I'm just saying that maybe if 2 and 3 were different, 4 may be.
May not be...but worst case is he still isn't playing with anyone as of now.

Just because players are now getting paid does not make them adults. They are still growing into adulthood and money complicates things. I bet Zeed doesn't know what to do with the money or proposed money, how to invest/save it so he'll have it for his future.

He as well as all players have to have help with respect to money and someone who can be trusted with managing their money. They need classes now to be taught to look at everything from balancing a checkbook to saving to investing.

Perhaps there should be a new Money Management Office for college players at every school where they learn how to deal with and manage money - budget your money, take the money you need for clothes, eating out, entertainment, (movies), gas, car payments the entire shebang. SAVE ALL YOU CAN YOU WILL NEED IT SOMEDAY.

Agreed. I'd add that just because they are getting advice doesnt always make it GOOD advice. And that stinks. Many simply dont know better.

If I recall, SU was one of the early movers on financial education for all athletes because of the new influx of cas, fast cash mixed with reality (easy come, easy go). You can require athletes attend but you cannot force athletes to pay attention or follow through with the advice.

Pro agents are held to standards now, not like the old days where they could pretty much do anything. The NCAA, or maybe a responsible agency, needs to establish college athlete agent standards and limits. And parents, unless qualified, should not be allowed the represent their children.

Either way, it is what it is. I hope he signs with someone soon, he has a lot of talent. I wish him the best and I think we can all agree to that, although feel free to "thumbs down" me if you disagree.

And you have no basis in fact to declare item 3 so please just stop already.

2. You couldn't just let bygones be bygones and continued to make a fool of yourself on this website speculating about something that isn't your business.

I have no business to declare he has said nothing about why? I mean except for the fact he hasnt?

Not saying its my business or anyone's business. This whole sequence started when I expressed dismay for the kid that he didn't get picked up yet.

Hope he finds a team soon he has a lot of talent. Let's just move on. Time to stop beating this dead horse. We clearly aren't seeing eye to eye and thats ok.

Self awareness is on the house phone, you should pick up

I consider anyone under 40 to be a “kid.” And yes I often refer to these players as kids. But the athletics world has changed. These are young people operating in the adult world of big-time college sports, with all the money, temptation, and responsibilities that go with that. In that sense, they are no longer kids. They are responsible for their actions and decisions as much as any of us. Are they experienced and worldly wise? Nope. Good luck to them

Being paid doesn’t make you an adult. There are chronological adults based upon arbitrary societal determinations, then there are emotional and intellectual adults. Most men don’t reach that state until about age 25.

No you can’t speak on what advice he has been given by anyone … seriously give it a rest.

I am trying to give it a rest. I keep saying let's move on. I hope he gets picked up by someone soon regardless of what advice he may or may not have been given and what has or has not been said about what happened. Let's agree to disagree and move on. Oof.
