Tony Gwynn could handle any pitcher but he couldn't handle his tobacco habit and it likely is what killed him:

Bill Tuttle was mentioned in the story. Bill played for the Tigers and Twins for about a decade back in the 50's and early 60's, then finished his career, (as some ballplayers id in the old days), with the Syracuse Chiefs and became a popular player. I remember his last game where they had him play every position on the field and he hit a home run.
