Dispute Over Football Staff Size May Lead to New NCAA Rules

This is so vague, it's literally impossible and illogical. So Oregon should downsize their facilities bc Iowa St's are crap? Life's not fair man, never will be.

I should also state that "this" in my comment is hiring of support staff. Not some vague pronouncement.

NFL teams get good because of good coaching (same as CFB) and good roster management/cap management. The rules in the NFL are the most stringent around player acquisition and the cap. CFB teams get good because of good coaching and recruiting. There's a reason for all the rules governing recruiting. The amount of support staff you have doesn't help you with the cap. But the amount of support staff could influence recruiting. And the NFL is the biggest sport in this country with or without your viewership - they are doing something right. Players don't move around as much as you think anyways. As for your first point - yeah teams with more fans and more money should spend their money. Just not on gaining an unfair advantage in recruiting.

But the amount of support staff could influence recruiting. How can this be when there are only the actual staff of coaches which is capped and some support staff that are allowed contact to recruits? There are rules in place so that nobody has a clear advantage in recruiting as you mentioned. How is having more support staff going to affect recruiting with such rules in place and please explain which ones are being circumvented by adding additional staff?

And the NFL is the biggest sport in this country with or without your viewership - they are doing something right. Players don't move around as much as you think anyways. Actually they move around quite a bit more than they did in the past. As far as the NFL being the biggest sport in the country without my viewership, that is fine. I would bet that I am not the only one that feels this way and if their attitude mirrors yours, it wont be for long. Especially with the concussion press they are getting and what it has meant to youth football leagues and parents. Baseball, Horse Racing and Boxing all used to be King of the hill and are no longer. It can happen to any business or sport.

Support staff recruit, they just can't recruit off campus. Do you think Alabama hired locksley as an offensive analyst for his superior offensive mind or his recruiting prowess? I don't really know but I'd put my money on the recruiting

Then don't limit support staff, limit or take away their ability to recruit if that is the perceived issue with tilting the field. Limit who can recruit kids and who can't if it isn't already defined.

But don't take away jobs from people trying to break into coaching in a supportive role or folks who had higher roles and had to take a supportive one for the time being.

These guys got it done with 11 and you had to teach players all the skills because they played both ways with no specialists:

Essentially, the argument is the same either way: You can get the job done with fewer people. if Florida State can get the job done with fewer people then Syracuse, which already has fewer people, can get the job done. It's the quality of the coaching that matters more than the quantity of coaches.

The reason there are scholarship limits is to Clemson and Florida State can't recruit the guys they want and then recruit the guys you want, who won't be able to play for them, just you can't compete with them.

Support staff are usually doing things like breaking down film, helping to coach things, etc. They are important and needed for both the NFL and CFB. I'm not arguing to the contrary. The thing in question is: are college teams gaining more of an advantage than is warranted by hiring an excess or hiring specific people (high school coaches or parents/friends of specific recruits). Not only that, teams can say "you'll have these 6 guys for your position group" and we only have 2. That tilts the scales.

NFL viewership might suffer due to concussions. But that's much different than not watching due to free agency which was your original comment.
