Welcome to the Epiphany!

Epiphany (Koine Greek: Ἐπιφάνεια, Epiphaneia, "Manifestation", "striking appearance")[1] or Theophany,[2] (Ancient Greek: (ἡ) Θεοφάνεια,Τheophaneia meaning "Vision of God")[3] also known as Three Kings' Day,[4] is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God the Son as human in Jesus Christ. In Western Christianity, the feast commemorates principally (but not solely) the visit of the Magi to the Christ child, and thus Jesus' physical manifestation to the Gentiles.[5][6]Moreover, the feast of the Epiphany, in some Western Christiandenominations, also initiates the liturgical season of Epiphanytide.[7][8]Eastern Christians, on the other hand, commemorate the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, seen as his manifestation to the world as theSon of God.[9]

The traditional date for the feast is January 6. However, since 1970, the celebration is held in some countries on the Sunday after January 1.Eastern Churches following the Julian Calendar observe the Theophany feast on what for most countries is January 19[10] because of the 13-day difference today between that calendar and the generally used Gregorian calendar.[11] In many Western Christian Churches, the eve of the feast is celebrated as Twelfth Night.[12][13] The Monday after Epiphany is known asPlough Monday.[14]

Alternative names for the feast in Greek include (τα) Θεοφάνια, Theophany as neuter plural rather than feminine singular, η Ημέρα των Φώτων, i Imera ton Foton (modern Greek pronunciation), hē hēmera tōn phōtōn (restored classical pronunciation), "The Day of the Lights", and τα Φώτα, ta Fota, "The Lights".[15]

Mike Hopkins ran the Orange for nine games in Jim Boeheim's absence, leading Syracuse to a 4-5 record. He ran the team pretty much according to the Boeheim script the whole way.&nbsp;</p>

One particular Boeheim philisophy upheld by Hopkins was costly for the Orange.&nbsp;</p>

Holdding a 61-58 lead late in the game, Hopkins should have ordered the code red and fouled, preventing Clemson from attempting a game-tying 3-pointer. He didn't and Tigers guard Gabe Devoe made him pay, drilling a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left to the tie the game at 61 and send it to overtime.

Clemson Beats Syracuse in Overtime (D&C; Frank)

Jaron Blossomgame and Landry Nnoko combined for 11 of Clemson's 13 points in overtime to lead the Tigers to a 74-73 win over Syracuse on Tuesday night.

Trevor Cooney stole an inbounds pass in the closing seconds but missed a 3-pointer from the corner that would have given the Orange the lead.

Blossomgame led the Tigers (9-6, 2-1 ACC) with 20 points. Nnokomo equaled his career high with 19 and snared 10 rebounds before fouling out in the extra period.

Michael Gbinije led Syracuse (10-6, 0-3) with 22 points, while freshman Malachi Richardson scored a career-high 21.

Syracuse has not started a season 0-3 in league play since 1996-97 as a member of the Big East Conference.

It was the final game as interim coach for Syracuse's Mike Hopkins. Jim Boeheim returns Wednesday after serving a nine-game suspension imposed by the NCAA.

Blossomgame's lay-in gave the Tigers a 65-63 lead a minute into the overtime, but Richardson-s 3-pointer gave the Orange its only lead in the extra session at 66-65 with 3:01 to go.

A three-point play by Nnoko gave Clemson a 70-66 lead, and the Tigers survived the tense final seconds.

Checked in with Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim upon his return today after a nine-game, five-week suspension. He said, "Mike (Hopkins) did a great job. But his style differs from mine. It's different when it's not your team. We need to have better movement on offense. I missed the players, the coaches and everyday grind." Syracuse is 0-3 in the ACC (losses to Pitt, Miami and Clemson) and hosts North Carolina Saturday.
