I actually watched the press conference and that was flat out embarrassing. I don't care we went 7-6 last year. Shafer is an clown and our team is always either underachieving in these games or we aren't prepared.

The fact we have such a terrible offense in an age where college offense have such huge advantages is sad. Shafer acts like a MAC HC and I never see adjustments. McDonald has no clue. We might not have the best talent in CFB but we are not as bad as we appear on the field.

Dr. Gross the only way you will make a change is if your fanbase demands it. I do not want another year of this garbage. 2009 and 2011 both non-bowl seasons were no where this bad. I can not wait another 2 years for a new staff. Please realize it is not unfair to pull the plug when the incumbent staff is so woefully not worthy of more time and hurts the program long term to give another year to its leader.

i have to agree. I like Shafer. He seems to work hard and seems to care about the kids and the community. But, no progress has been made from last year to this year. Further, this staffs inability to change when things arent working is mind-boggling. Im over the be patient, were gonna play our game and get better at it attitude. If Shafer wants to salvage the season or his job, he needs to make a change somewhere. QB, playcalling, offensive coordinator. when Hacketts offense wasnt working, he made a change.

I like him, but this isn't working.

Gross hired GRob, Marrone and Shafer. Sorry...but three strikes, and Gross is gone.

He doesn't get a fourth hire.

The Marrone hire was just awful.

Gross isn't going anywhere. Shafer on the other hand...

Let's all take a deep breath. This season is off to a disappointing start and last night was a complete debacle. But Shafer is 9-9 as our HC, and he still has 3 years left on his contract. I think he and his staff desrve a chance to demonstrate what they can do with their own recruits. Even Greg Robinson got 4 years.

I like Shafer. Sorry he gets more chances. I watched mistakes but the team has been more of a team under him then I seen in a long time. No quit approach. Nope.. he can stay. Gross? No opinion. FYI - Like everyone's thoughts on the list. Good point about no top 25.

After the last few weeks, does anyone expect more than one or two more wins? Can Shafer survive a 3-9 debacle?

It seems to me that we just don't have any rhythm at all on offense. Too many 3 and outs. We hardly held the ball at all in the first half. How can they adjust offensively if you can't see what's working or not working? So that puts the defense on the field for long stretches. And they don't help themselves with missed tackles and seemingly never making a stop on 3rd down. Go balls to the wall on offense and defense.

Marrone , was a home run. He saved the program.
Now Shafer is trying to win with out a QB. They are trying to hide his faults within the offense.

Then why does the QB handle the ball every play and why did we run only 22 times last night?

We are running the spread offense McDonald wants without the personnel to run this offense.

And if you don't like the QB, well then this staff had a full recruiting cycle to find a replacement. We played against a true freshman last night... So that falls on recruiting. And if you don't have a true freshman you like get a juco. The QB position is so important in the spread. I thought Terrel could run it. It appears he can't. In this situation to win games you need a ball control offense.

I think HCSS is a good guy, very dedicated to the team and community, and it's possible that some day he may become a decent head coach, but it's clear he's currently in over his head. It's frustrating to watch him struggle as he learns the job; It's something we SU fans have endured a lot over the past several years.

I'll never understand why we keep hiring head coaches with zero head coaching experience. Marrone worked out OK, but still had to learn on the job. GRob, not much to say. Is Shafer a work in progress or another GRob, who knows?

I think that we need to hire a proven head coach to turn this thing around. If we wait until Shafer's contract expires, we will be so far behind we might never catch up and will be doomed to college football irrelevancy for at least a generation.

Very frustrating to be an SU football fan these days.

Even at 3-9/4-8 season, Shafer is safe. It's just not the SU way to can someone after 2 years. They'll point to his success last year and say this year was not the norm.

This. I wasn't going to post it because it's still early and I like Shafer. BUT if we do have to get a new coach, the next one MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST have prior head coaching experience. I don't care if we are a stop over point to a bigger job anymore either.

Alsacs - first things first - Syverud needs to pull the plug on a Gross first! Enough is enough with SUAD - it needs a complete overhaul and a new AD with a proven track record.

Let's fix the problem at the top - first Cantor, next up Gross.

Look this is all about an incompetent OC. No one seems to be talking about how good the defense has been. yes Shafer hired a terrible OC and he should be held accountable for that. But it's clearly not all bad. The problem is fixable if they spend some money to get a quality OC.

Couldn't agree more. Fire the entire staff today so we can get a new staff in here by Monday to prepare for FSU.

But only sign the new staff to 10 day contracts so, if we lose to FSU, we can fire that staff and only have to pay them for 3 days while we find a new staff for Wake.

I like it.

I think that at least half the search committee should be from the board.

Since we could be going through as many as 7 or 8 coaching staffs a year, it will probably have to be a full-time, paid position.

Then we can add specialists from our hoops and lax boards since we'll probably have to force JB to retire and we'll probably fire Hop before February.

And there is no way Desko makes it through Lax season.

It is going to be busy around here.

I'm going to start researching how much we'll have pay Saban to get him here on a 10 day. If anyone can beat FSU, he can so I think he should be our first target.

The defense can't tackle.

The QB, well...when the talent evaluators on the board evelauate the talent, you people need to listen to us.

Mr soundbite, talking points on a cue card is also exactly what we said.

Syverud would be wise to pull the plug on gross, RIGHT NOW, so the new guy can come in and get his guy in by December.

The defense has been okay. its hard to know their potential without our iffense sustaining drives and scoring points, But, they got shredded against maryland and ND and gave up way too many big plays on bubble screens

Where's the money coming from to buy out the last 3 years of Shafer's contract?

I guess it's a good thing we got that huge check from the MetLife game after all. ;)

The masses who were washing shafer's jock by hand. Playing Marco Polo in his pool and calling for an extension 6 weeks ago are now calling for him to be fired. Same old, same old.

I warned people and I like Shafer as much as the next guy, doesn't matter how much we like him, when he starts losing the tide turns and it turns in a hurry.

Now we get to play how bad does it need to get for him to be fired this year, it ain't happening so stop.

Calm down , there is still a lot of football to be played and a lot of goals to play for . I have never seen musical coaches work out . The major tension is off now and HCSS is a good man who is going to give it all he's got. Stay the course and if it's affecting you too adversely , then detach for a while.

Eventually it works like UCLA.
