What does SU/Coyle do? Like if the team wins only a couple of ACC games. Pull the plug on Boeheim? The rest of the staff? I don't know how much JB can fix with this group of players, frankly. These are his and the staff's recruiting misses and obviously bad luck too. Not trying to be overly reactionary just posing an honest question.

Depends on how quickly ticket sales plummet. The athletic department has historically been reliant on basketball revenue to balance the budget, so to speak. ACC $ might have changed things though.

I doubt any change is made even if they lose out. Only thing that might happen behind the scenes is greater pressure for JB to speed up the retirement timeframe.

We had 2 bad years. Get over it. FF 3 years ago. 25-0 2 years ago.

We had a couple of recruits not pan out (DC, Joseph), and some did better than expected and left early (Ennis, Grant). Diagle (sp) never even got here.

Just bad luck the last 2 years with players really.

Did the season end at 25-0? That season was the beginning of the fallout and any attempt to spin that season off the ledger should be an automatic 24-hour ban.

We're in year 3 of mediocre-to-embarrassing basketball... and in year 4 of dysfunctional halfcourt offense.

He does nothing. Just like any other AD would do. JB hasn't even been there for the 8 game fiasco. We are a terribly flawed team. We will be better next year. If you think the school is going to fire jb, you are nuts. JB has two years left.

Going 25-0 is meaningless given the way the last third of the season went. That said, you're right about bad luck with players not panning out, leaving early, and not even making it on campus.

25-0, 25-0, 25-0. F 25-0. Who cares? That's all I hear...25-0. Offensively this team wasn't very good the F4 year. Since 25-0, and I forgot who brought it up, I believe we are 11-16 (counting tonight) in the ACC. Our only ACC Tourney game was a loss to NC St. We're not trending in the right direction.

Agreed about the 25-0 idea.

This program is too well known, and has had too much talent for the lack of success in the last ~13 years.

I believe the 3 years is a maximum time limit and I also believe JB said in his infamous sanctions presser that it could be less. It is vague and uncertain. Do I think anything will happen? No. Would I be surprised if something did? Not really and not really nuts to think so frankly, imo.

JB has 40 seasons of high quality basketball equity built up. Unless something else unknown were to come out to taint the basketball team I see JB going out on his terms no matter the record.

After that though I really hope Coyle or whoever the AD is at least gauges outside interest in the job (Jay Wright level). I'm not overly impressed with the Hopkins HC preview.

A new ad is going to come in and fire a hall of fame coach who has been at the school for 54 years? No chance. Plus, things will be better next year. Not great. But better.

Good lord. That "bad luck" happens to every top 25 program. Every year. Excuses, excuses. We're starting to sound like the football board trying to spin away shafer's record.

No question it should be better. Again, I am merely curious and am not necessarily advocating it.

I really am usually optimistic about the program, but I am as down as I have been about the program. Just boring basketball. No offense in the half court. No exciting plays made in transition. Same defense, nothing ever changes according to the personnel. Engraving this team to play 2-3 when Diagne didn't make it to the hill was just a dumb mistake. You coach on a yearly basis. Adjust your teams defense and offense. Nothing here strategically has changed and I think that's a mistake. I watched VT completely SHUT DOWN UVAs post play yesterday by blitzing the post hard. They haven't done that at all prior to their last game verse UVA... You have to adjust. We've made none. It's so frustrating to me.

It'll be interesting to see if we get Thompson, and what happens with our 2017 recruiting. If next year we've got Battle/Malachi/Frankie/Moyer/Lydon/Roberson/Chukwu/Coleman/Thompson... on paper, that looks like a team that can do some damage and hopefully doesn't have any obvious weak spots.

We might need a pretty beastly class for 2017 though.

In my depressed state, I just looked through our At their request, this network is being blocked from this site. recruiting of the last 10 years. The program has some gloomy times in the Watkins/Roberts days. Years I thought we had talent and we just couldn't put it together (kind of like now).

It took under the radar guys like Rautkins/Triche to get the program turned around.

Well you don't get rid of the hall of fame coach who's going to retire in a few years. I know that much.

Considering our biggest issues are some combination of youth, not having a center, and no PG. I have to imagine the fact that we'll have a PG, a Center, and three good freshman with an important year under their belt has to bode well.

I do get amused by the short memories of some here and their willingness to jump over the edge so soon (not necessarily directed at the OP). We missed on a PG recruit who most members here were some level of excited to land and we recruited a Center without knees who we assumed had some knees. That's the cause (along with maybe the wasted scholarship on Obokoh) of the team's woes right now.

If Kaleb was anything other than poopy at the game of basketball, we might be okay. But he is poopy, so we play a forward at PG and teams who do that are gonna have a bad time. We also play a freshman SF, who weighs less than Juli Boeheim, at Center for most of the game because he has a knee or two unlike the McDonalds All-American. That's not a recipe for success either.

Good lord, get a grip. You're better than this. I'll pretend I didn't see this.

Is this "What Would Trump Do"? In that case, clean house. Fire the entire staff and send Obokoh and Joseph to Siena. Also fire the Bville HS band director. Bring in some high paid replacements and give them one week to turn things around. If that doesn't work, liquidate the assets of the basketball program, bulldoze the dome and erect a 200,000 sqft casino in its place.

I LOVED that band! Their rendition of "Dream On" is stellar. They were the bright spot of that game, which is sad to type.

The issue isn't Boeheim or when he decides to hang it up. It was the decision to hand the keys to a top 5 program to a guy who has never coached. It worked with Jimmy obviously but this is a very risky proposition. I hope it works out but judging from the small sample size, this thing can go bad quickly if Hopkins doesn't get off to a good start when it's his show.

Has he done anything to make people feel confident that hes's ready to take over permanently?
